Samsung Galaxy A53 for $450: Samsung’s Latest A series phones is a great alternative to the Pixel 5A that is not available everywhere. The 6.5-inch screen is brighter than the Pixel (and smoother), plus it’ll get 4 OS upgrades and 5 years of security updates. Its performance is solid — things can get a little shaky when you try to mix multiple apps at once — but overall I’m satisfied. The battery can last more than a day, sometimes close to two days depending on usage. The camera system holds its own, although the Pixel 5A still has a good lead.
Motorola Edge+ for $900: Motorola’s new flagship phone no right to cost as much as it has. Its camera pales in comparison to the competition (it doesn’t even have a telephoto zoom option), its water resistance is less, and its 5G support isn’t very strong. But it’s powerful, has a nice display, and a clean software experience, and lasts more than a day on a single charge. It’s a fine phone. if you really If I wanted to, I would wait for the price to drop to $600 or less.
OnePlus 9 for $599 and OnePlus 9 Pro for $799: Last year’s OnePlus phones were worth buying, especially at this discounted price (8/10, Recommend with WIRED). The camera is solid and the rest of the hardware is great as usual. However, not every phone has a true standout feature. You’ll only get two more Android OS upgrades (it just got Android 12) and three years of security updates.
Sony Xperia 1 III for $1,200: Sony’s top-of-the-line Xperia is perfect for those who like to tinker with settings in the camera app or like to take photos or videos in manual mode. The camera experience is fun, but it doesn’t deliver better results than some of our top picks above. You get top performance, a stunning 120 Hz 4K OLED display, loud stereo speakers, wireless charging and a headphone jack! It’s so expensive. 5G here is just sub-6, which shouldn’t be the case given its price (5G doesn’t work on AT&T either).
Asus Zenfone 8 for $700: If you’re after a small but powerful Android phone, look no further than the Zenfone 8. The 5.9-inch screen is small compared to most flagship phones — and this To be a flagship, as it is powered by last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor. You also get a 120 Hz AMOLED display, a headphone jack, and all-day battery life. However, it doesn’t work on Verizon and the camera system is fine. Our review with more details.
