16-year-old drowns in pond trying to save friend: Gurgaon Police
Gurugram:
A 16-year-old boy drowned in a pond while trying to save a friend in Gurugram, police said.
Sonu, the dead boy, and four other boys – Yash, Ankit, Vansh and his brother – went to the pond in Samaspur village to take a dip in the water around midday.
When he saw that one of the four boys had drowned, Sonu tried to put the boy in the bundle but drowned himself. Police said the friend he tried to rescue and three others swam to safety.
Sonu was brought out of the water unconscious and doctors at the hospital declared him dead. On the other hand, the villagers mistakenly informed the police that the four boys had drowned, prompting them to launch a four-hour search operation. Police only learned of the other boys’ whereabouts later.
“We have kept the body in the morgue and will hand it over to his family after the autopsy tomorrow (Sunday),” said Inspector Rajesh Kumar, SHO of the Sector 50 police department.
