2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee stops selling because of immobilization mistake
- Jeep car ordered a temporary halt to the sale on 2022 Grand Cherokee due to faulty electronics.
- According to numerous reports online, the problem is immobilizing some new Grand Cherokee models, according to multiple online reports.
- Jeep said it is contacting customers to request a free service repair, adding that the issue only affects certain SUVs and that a recall will not be necessary.
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is on hold while the company repairs faulty electronics that are believed to have immobilized some models. Sometimes the keys on brand new cars won’t be recognized and the vehicle will be immobile – possibly reacting to what it perceives to be an unauthorized break-in attempt. The customer’s account problem appeared earlier this month on an online forum Jeep Garage and also reported earlier this week by CD driver.
The vehicle’s radio frequency hub module (RFHM) appears to be causing communication failures between some of the owner’s keys and their vehicle, according to reports citing a notice issued by Stellantis. is said to have been sent to the dealer. Referring to RFHM, the cited document explains that the problem “could lead to persistent failure to start.”
A Stellantis spokesperson confirmed to Vehicle and Driver that the problem currently affects a “limited number of vehicles.” The spokesperson also said that the company has “identified a solution and is moving forward with the provision of service parts for [its] dealer network” and Jeep will not issue a recall, but is contacting customers to let them know that their Grand Cherokees can be repaired free of charge should they experience this problem.
The spokesperson did not comment on whether RFHM was the cause of the problem. We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
