Like most automakers today, BMW car busy electrifying its product line, just introduced i4 sedan and iX SUV for the 2022 model year. The IX is a midsize SUV similar to the entry-level sedan BMW X5, except for the electric version which has a much more polarizing appearance. While every iX has dual electric motors and a 105.2 kWh battery pack, power output and estimated range will vary between the two available models.
The regular xDrive50 version has a total output of 516 horsepower and a range of 305 to 324 miles. It starts at $84,195. Higher performance Model M60 joins iX lineup for 2023 model year, yielding a total of 610 horses and a range of 274 to 288 miles. It starts at $106,095. Our editors were asked to define their ideal iX, and while most of us prioritize scope and value, someone emptied their fake bank account to gain power and supreme reputation. I haven’t driven the more powerful M60 model yet, but I enjoyed my time with the xDrive50 and found it to be fairly quick. I want to use that model and save my money on some slick upgrades. First, I would opt for the $2800 Sport styling package, which adds 21-inch wheels, clear rear lenses, and replaces the black front and rear bumpers with body color. The inexpensive Blue Ridge Mountain Metallic paint looks great, and it matches the iX’s optional $500 Stonegrey Microfiber and Wool interior upholstery. This fabric furniture selection also adds a lovely rose gold interior accent. Finally, I’ll add the $2300 Add-on Package, which includes a head-up display with augmented reality for the navigation system, an external 360-degree camera system, and Parking Assist feature. BMW. My ideal all-in-one iX xDrive50i would cost $87,495, which sounds a bit high, but in my experience, this EV SUV is great value for money. –Drew Dorian

The BMW iX is certainly not my favorite car to see, but recently spent some time in its sumptuous interior and experienced silent and relaxing ride, iX is developing based on me. I chose the iX xDrive50, because 516 hp in a full-size SUV is more than enough. Plus, with a starting price of $84,195, I was able to splurge on options without even getting close to the M60’s $106,095 base price. For exterior trim, I opted for the $2800 Sport option, which adds a more aggressive front bumper design from the M60 as well as dark taillights in place of the traditional red units. While it also includes 21-inch two-tone wheels, I ended up spending $950 to replace them with 22-inch dark wheels that have a more elaborate design and give the iX a more assertive stance. . I painted my iX in vibrant Phytonic Blue Metallic, a free option. Inside, I opted for the $500 Stonegrey Microfiber and Wool Blend seat covers, the same specs we got in the car I drove, soft to the touch and providing the cabin with a tranquil atmosphere. . I also dropped $4000 on the Premium package, because my luxury SUV is better off with a head-up display and surround-view camera. This bundle comes with useful perks like augmented reality navigation, Park Assist Plus, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and multifunction seats. I could do without the interior camera, gesture controls, and weird fake driving sounds, but they’re part of the package. I didn’t upgrade to the $3400 30-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system because I thought an 18-speaker Harman Kardon setup would work for me. The price difference between the 610-horsepower iX M60 with an EPA-rated 288-mile range versus the 516-horsepower iX xDrive50 with an estimated 324-mile range isn’t too far off the base price of the car. Nissan Leaf. Comparing their estimated acceleration times, the M60’s 3.6 seconds (mfr’s claim) to 60 mph seems less than worth it considering the $21,900 difference gets you a 5700 SUV pound just 8 tenths of a second faster. The only thing worse than the iX’s fake kidney grille is paying extra for qualities that will only reduce driving range. I wanted to stick with the already elegant basics of the base model iX xDrive50 Shadowline with 20-inch wheels. Plus, the 21-inch option cuts the EPA range by 20 miles. Among colors that don’t require an extra pack and larger wheels, the free Blue Ridge Mountain Metallic strikes a balance between paint colors not offered on Teslas and the ones that used to be for Pontiac Aztek. I love the Amido’s olive leaf-tanned perforated leather interior ($2450) with Bronze Titanium trim because I love how the bronze highlights the seat, window, and door locks in a cabin other gothic. The optional Premium package ($4000) is unquestionable. The package includes an 18-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system, an enhanced HUD and navigation, a 360-degree holographic camera, a front-facing massage chair, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Oddly enough, the front ventilated seats ($500) aren’t part of the Convenience or Premium package for the iX Drive50, but are a must-have to keep the lower part of my Midwest Costco body in check. cooled. Heated front seats are standard. Finally, I’ll add the optional Icon Adaptive Laserlight headlights ($1000) just to see if they’re bright enough to toast a white-tailed deer before it crosses the road. In my opinion, the only way to make the BMW iX look like something I really want to see is to give it a complimentary Sapphire Metallic Black. The shade successfully obscures the midsize SUV’s clumsy appearance, and when paired with the optional two-tone bronze 22-inch wheels and the mandatory bronze exterior trim ($1450 total), the iX looks real. bad. While this look can be closely replicated on the 516-horsepower xDrive50 model, I’d be happy to shell out an extra $21,900 for the more powerful M60 version. Why spend more on an EV just to give up an estimated 50-mile driving range? Two words: power and prestige. With twin electric motors at peak power, the M60 makes 610 horsepower and 811 pound-feet of torque, up 94 and 247 respectively over the xDrive50. That will kick this nearly three-ton power brick to 60 mph in about 3.3 seconds (CD estimate), fast enough to confuse any Tesla Model Y and X model owners. I also want any BMW I buy to wear the M badge, even if the chassis upgrade on the M60 only makes the front and rear anti-roll bars a little stiffer. The only regrettable thing about the M60 is that it’s not available in the beautiful Stone Gray and wool blend microfiber fabric found on the xDrive50. Instead, I would go for the luxurious looking Castanea Chestnut leather option ($3,500). It also seems silly not to spend the extra $1900 on a package that allows my iX to park itself and even change lanes on its own, in certain situations. Finally, I was also able to spare the expense and drop about $1150 on the Luxury package. Perhaps its gently opening and closing doors will encourage my friends to stop slamming them. Either way, I’m sure to enjoy looking at the perforated wood trim and tapping the glass controls. Final cost? $113,920. –Eric Stafford
