2023 Hyundai Grandeur revealed | CarExpert

Remember the Hyundai Grandeur? It was the company’s flagship sedan in Australia from 1999 to 2011 across two generations.

While it has since been retired to galleries in the country, the nameplates of the soldiers in its home country of Korea, with a brand new version were revealed overnight.

Once again the Grandeur will be called Azera in export markets.

Before we got into it, it was unlikely that this seventh generation Grandeur/Azera would come to Australia – we signed up with the local branch of the brand.

The all-new model comes out six years after the sixth generation debuted in 2016, and that’s a departure.

Despite its futuristic look, its engine is still old-fashioned internal combustion – at least to begin with. Options include a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol, a 3.5-litre six-cylinder petrol and a 1.6-litre petrol-electric hybrid.

“We are setting a new standard for the premium sedan market through emotional design and refined customer experience,” said Hyundai Design Center Director SangYup Lee.

“The seventh-generation Grandeur demonstrates our respect for the past and our commitment to the future.”

A little bit ahead Staria about the full width slim light bar -”inspired by the first light of dawn” – above the parametric patterned mesh grille, flanked by rounded square bottom lights.

The side profile is defined by a line of text running horizontally from the headlights to the taillights, on the sides clean and tidy, with frameless doors and flat handles.

Instead of the traditional three-box shape, the D-pillar has a gentler slope to create an agile silhouette. This is placed behind the highlighted column C, which means there is a third party window.

The ‘Seamless Horizon’ design feature of the front light bar is also applied to the full-width rear lights, somewhat reminiscent of the i30 Sedan but much thinner.

The cabin is advertised as an “oasis for relaxation and recovery”.

Ambient mood lighting spreads softly over the door trim and front panel of the dashboard, and interactive lighting in the upper right of the display provides a “new user experience”.

The details on the door trim are designed with “a refined Korean aesthetic”, the company adds.

The designers used real wood, aluminum and natural dyed Nappa leather tufted in the traditional Korean style.

The American car-inspired steering wheel seems to be inspired by the single-spoke design of the first-generation Grandeur, while the gearshift paddles are interestingly located on the column.

Multimedia shows up on two screens sharing a single frame, underneath is a row of slim buttons and dials, and what looks like a tactile touchscreen for climate control.

Hyundai Australia’s sedan lineup includes i30 and Sonatawith the Genesis brand provided G70 and G80. The Ioniq 6 The EV sedan will debut in early 2023.

What do you think? Is the design of the new Grandeur a winner?
