2023 MG 4: Top 330kW EV revealed in China
MG unveiled a dual-motor flagship version of the all-electric Magnolia Flower hatchback, also known as MG 4, in China with superior performance compared to hatchback.
Dubbed Triumph versionIt is unclear whether this dual-engine version of the MG 4 will be offered in Australia.
As recently reported, Single-engine version of the MG 4 hatch will be available in the first half of 2023.
We’ve reached out to MG Motor Australia to see if there is a possibility for a local launch of the twin-engine MG 4 and will update this story once we receive a response.
This top version of the MG 4 is powered by dual-motor all-wheel drive setup manufacturing 330kW power and 600Nm of torque.
For context, this is 20kW and 100Nm more than Mercedes-AMG A45 WILLand 36kW and 100Nm more than Audi RS3.
The MG 4 dual motor also has the same output as Brabus Smart Performance Edition #1 There’s also a dual full-time four-wheel drive setup, but making 315kW and 543Nm.
MG claims the dual-engine version of the MG 4 can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds. This is on par with the Mercedes-AMG A45 S, Audi RS3 and Smart #1 Brabus, and puts it between the Tesla Model 3 Long Range (4.4 seconds) and Performance (3.3 seconds).
This dual full-time all-wheel drive electric powertrain is combined with the same 64kWh . tertiary lithium battery pack as the flagship single-engine MG 4.
MG claims MG 4 dual-motor with electric range 460km according to test CLTC more lenient. For reference, the single-engine version with the same battery pack has the CLTC’s range of 520 km.
The twin-engine MG 4 gets torque vectoring, orange “high-performance” brake calipers and 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels wrapped in 235/45 R18 Bridgestone tires.
Inside, the flagship dual-engine MG 4 also gets Alcantara sports seats with six-way power adjustment and two-way lumbar support, and an Alcantara steering wheel.
MG UK commercial director, Guy Pigounakis, recently told Auto Express it’s looking launch of a dual-engine version of the MG 4 in early 2023suggests it will be offered on the right-hand drive.
“We will launch a performance version of the MG 4 in about six months,” said Mr. Pigounakis.
“It gives us the option of going wrong in terms of comfort with the standard car because of the dual-engine, very high-performance.”
It is not clear whether the UK version of the twin-engine MG 4 will use the Triumph Edition name or will bear the X-Power moniker currently used on the limited edition of the plug-in hybrid MG 6 in. China.
Mr. Pigounakis added: “I would like to see the brand convert more to a sporty image.
“We have very affordable cars today. It is about to change into sensible and interesting cars. “
Pricing for the dual-engine version of the MG 4 has yet to be revealed in China or the UK, but single-engine variant starts at £25,995 ($A44,104) in the UK.
