2023 MG CyberE electric hatchback patent image leaked

MG really serious about its global aspirations and a range of electric vehicles highlighted by a small hatch can help fuel its growth.

Patent image has been leaked online of the previous spy MG CyberE electric hatchback, which the brand calls the “first global car”.

China Car News released the images along with some information reportedly obtained from an internal MG presentation.

The CyberE, codenamed EH32, is said to be revealed as a near-production-ready concept at the Beijing motor show in March.

It is said to go on sale in China this year, with a European launch expected in Q4 2022 or early 2023.

No word yet on an Australian launch, although the company previously said it wanted to introduce the model alongside a mid-size electric SUV.

It’s part of MG’s new line of electric vehicles, which will also include a production version of the Cyberster concept, which is said to debut in 2024, along with a pair of new SUVs called the CyberS and CyberX.

THAN: MG Cyberster may come to Australia

MG is said to have carried out extensive global market research in the development of the model, evaluating the Volkswagen ID.3 benchmark, which MG’s parent SAIC Motor also produces as part of a joint venture with Volkswagen in China.

It is said to use a new EV platform designed to support Level 3 autonomous driving technology.

It’s unclear what electric powertrain CyberE will use.

Update ZS EV will use a front-mounted electric motor with 130kW and 280Nm of torque and a choice of 51kWh and 72kWh batteries, but the MG Marvel R sold in Europe is available with a three-motor powertrain, a 70kWh battery and the output is 212kW and 665Nm.

The ZS EV offers a range of 320 km to 440 km (WLTP) depending on the battery, while the Marvel R has a range of 370 km in the three-motor guise.

As patent image and spy photos in the past revealed, CyberE has a relatively conventional hatchback shape but with some more distinctive design elements.

There’s quite a bit of force to be had, with a crinkled bonnet, angled headlights and Cyberster concept-inspired front bumper treatment.

There’s also a prominent rear spoiler and diffuser, and the boomerang-shaped tail lights appear to be joined together by a full-width light bar.

MG has been busy expanding across Europe after its first reboot under Chinese ownership in the UK.

According to reports, it wants to export 120,000 vehicles to Europe this year.

The brand has sold 360,000 vehicles across global markets by 2021, while MG and sister brand Roewe have sold a total of 800,000 vehicles in China alone.

Parent company SAIC Motor exports MG products not only to Europe, UK, Australia and New Zealand, but also India, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

The company says it is one of the top 10 brands in 17 countries.

MG’s EV range currently includes only the ZS EV in Australia, which has already sold out ahead of the updated model’s launch in the second half of this year. It is the second best-selling electric car in Australia.

In other markets, the company offers the Marvel R, a revamped version of the Roewe Marvel X. There’s also the MG 5 based on the Roewe ei5, a small electric wagon unrelated to the gas-powered small sedan that will be available. released this year.
