2023 Volvo C40 Recharge: Two powertrains coming to Australia
Volvo‘s next electric vehicle (EV) C40 rechargeis set to have single- and dual-engine variants when it hits Australian soil in the early second half of 2022.
Originally detailed as a dual-motor-only proposal, a single electric-motor variant will be added to the global roster before arriving locally.
“Our aim is to have both variations of the word [the] getting started,” said a spokesperson for Volvo Australia.
As previously reported, Australian-spec C40 recharge model will be made in China at Volvo’s Taizhou plant.
Based on XC40The C40 Recharge coupe SUV features a lower and steeper roofline, as well as a hatchback-style tailgate.
The dual-engined variant of the C40 Recharge shares an electric powertrain with the Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric SUV and Polestar 2 high end hatchback. The single-engine variant will probably do the same.
In an engine disguised, the XC40 and Polestar 2 Long Range are powered by a production front-mounted electric motor 170kW power and 330Nm of torque.
On the other hand, in the dual-motor form, there is one electric motor on each axis producing a total of 300kW and 660Nm.
Single motor is expected to use a 69kWh battery and has a claimed WLTP range of approx 380km; Dual motor version has a 78kWh battery and WLTP range of 420km.
Both models support DC fast charging with a capacity of up to 150kW and AC charging up to 11kW.
C40 Recharge is the first Volvo no skinwith all C40s coming with synthetic options made from recycled and bio-based materials.
An example of this is Nordico, a Volvo-developed material made from recycled PET bottles, biomaterials from sustainable Scandinavian forests, and recycled wine corks.
The C40 Recharge’s cabin is largely carried over from the XC40 and includes the company’s latest Android-based infotainment system with Google Maps, Google Assistant, and an app store all preloaded.
In other markets, the C40 Recharge gets unlimited data for software updates over the air.
Local pricing and specifications of the C40 Recharge are yet to be confirmed and will be revealed closer to the launch date.
It’s unclear exactly how much the C40 Recharge will cost, but it’s expected to be slightly higher than the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, in the coupe SUV tradition.
The single-engine Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric 2023 for reference costs $72,990 before on-road costs, and the dual-engine version costs $79,990 before on-road costs.
