After extensive contact tracing, Karnataka authorities said he had 13 direct contacts and more than 250 secondary contacts.

The other confirmed Omicron patient is a 66-year-old South African citizen who arrived in India with a negative Covid report.

The man, who received both doses of the vaccine, tested positive on arrival and had no symptoms, and was then asked to self-isolate.

A week later, with a negative Covid report from a private laboratory, he flew to Dubai. Samples from 24 of his primary contacts and 240 of his secondary contacts tested negative.
