50 F1 teams for men and women to participate in 2026

Former British American Racing (BAR) founder Craig Pollock has confirmed that he is looking to enter Formula 1 with a 50% male, 50% female team known as Formula Equality.

Pollock has submitted an expression of interest to the racing governing body, the FIA, whoplanning to find the 11th F1 team this early year.

“Our ambition is to provide and build opportunities and pathways for women to reach the highest levels in motorsport,” Pollock told CNN Sport. “The concept and idea is to try to build a Formula 1 team, 50% male, 50% female, which is extremely difficult to do if you have a Formula 1 team available; it’s a lot easier with a Formula 1 team. White paper. “

Pollock’s BAR team raced in F1 from 1999 to 2005, before being acquired by Honda, which became the famous Brawn GP team in 2009 and then Mercedes from 2010 onwards.

Pollock hopes to include a female driver on his list of new ventures, although he admits there are problems doing so over the next few years.

“We knew we were going to have to go through our academy system. We knew we were going to have to build it up because right now there aren’t enough women trained at Formula 1 level and they’re not.” I have to earn a place in it at the same time.”

This year Formula 1 will launch the F1 Academy, a series of championships primarily for teenage girls looking to start their journey up the pyramid. This series will be closely linked to the teams that make up the network of the Formula 3 and Formula 2 feeder series, which F1 hopes will provide a clearer route to the top.

Formula Equal hopes to become “the first Formula One team truly outside of Europe”, Pollock revealed that sponsorship discussions have taken place with a Gulf state.

The chairman of Saudi Arabian Motorsport Company HRH Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal said during the recent Saudi Arabia Grand Prix that the country hopes to have its own racing team in the future. .

There have been a few notable expressions of interest about 2026. The bid most reported by the media was Andretti-Cadillac’s joint bid, although that was met with a lukewarm response from 10 of its current teams. F1, who still need to sign any potential 11th entries.

There are lingering concerns about adding a new team to the mix and diluting the prize pool for teams at a time when F1 is enjoying an unprecedented boom in popularity.
