Amazon Music exec Sahas Malhotra joins JioSaavn as CEO
Sahas Malhotra Appointed CEO of India Born Audio Streaming Platform, JioSaavn.
Sahas Malhotra will replace former JioSaavn CEO and co-founder Rishi Malhotra, who left the company in March to join the podcast company Luminary as its chief executive officer.
Prior to founding Saavn, Rishi Malhotra served as Vice President of HBO, and from 2003 to 2008 he built and launched HBO On Demand.
He also worked on the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire.
The new CEO of JioSaavn Sahas Malhotra worked at Amazon since 2006, most recently Director, Amazon Music – India.
Before Amazon, Sahas served as Vice President of Sr. at Indian music record label and film production company Tips Industries.
He also worked at Sony Music Entertainment India from 1998 to October 2010, most recently Director – Digital & New Business.
Rishi Malhotra co-founded Saavn in 2006.
Originally, the platform was called BODVOD Network and specialized in distributing Bollywood recordings to music services in North America.
JioSaavn, now one of India’s largest music streaming platforms, comes into being after music service JioMusic merged with Saavn in a $1 billion transaction reported in November 2018.
Prior to that merger, the parent company of JioMusic Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) share buyback in Saavn worth more than $100 million.
In 2021, Merlina global digital rights agency for the world’s independent record label industry, has expanded a music licensing partnership with JioSaavn.
This agreement marks the first renewal between the two parties since Saavn merged with JioMusic.
JioSaavn also entered into a long-term exclusive partnership with the Los Angeles-based company Triller in Year 2020a deal it said at the time would drive “growth and subscribers for both services”.Worldwide music business
