Angela Merkel Says Germany’s “Drama”, Urges Vaccine Skeptics
Berlin:
On Wednesday, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Germany’s coronavirus situation was critical, calling for faster distribution of booster shots and urging vaccination skeptics to change their minds.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the Robert Koch Institute reported that confirmed cases rose by 52,826 as the fourth wave of the pandemic tightened its grip on Europe.
“It’s not too late to choose the first vaccine,” she told a congress of German city mayors. “All people who get vaccinated protect themselves and others. And if enough people get vaccinated, that’s the way out of the pandemic.”
She added that a “national effort” is needed to mass-distribute booster shots of the vaccine, as the protection provided by the vaccine begins to wane six months after the second dose.
