Apple announces challenge to Brazil’s move to ban the sale of iPhone models without battery chargers
According to the report, Apple said it will challenge a Brazilian court order to halt sales of iPhone models without battery chargers in the country. The Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security earlier fined Apple 12,275 million BRL (about 18 billion dong) over the matter of claiming that the company was providing an incomplete product to consumers. The ban on sales of all iPhone 12 and 13 models in the country. The Cupertino giant stopped offering chargers for its mobile phones in 2020 with the release of the iPhone 12, citing environmental concerns.
According to one report by Reuters, Apple Brazil will appeal a measure banning the sale of iPhone devices without battery chargers. The company said that it will continue to work with Brazilian consumer protection agency Senacon to “address their concerns”.
The report quotes Apple as saying “we have won several court rulings in Brazil on this matter, and we are confident that our customers are aware of the different options for charging and connecting their device”.
Brazilian government earlier on Tuesday prohibit sales of iPhone 12″ and newer models do not have a charger included. It slapped Apple with a BRL 12,275 million fine and accused the company of “intentional discriminatory practices against consumers.”
Apple discontinued the practice of packing chargers when it launched the iPhone 12 in 2020, citing it as a measure to reduce carbon emissions. Authorities have rejected Apple’s argument, saying there is no evidence that selling smartphones without chargers is environmentally beneficial.
Brazil’s ban comes ahead of Apple’s Far Out event today, where it’s expected to announce iPhone 14″ series with iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Proand iPhone 14 Pro Max Models.
