Via Alex Fesl: In case you missed, last weekend, Oscar De La Hoya posted a photo online of Terrance Crawford, Bernard Hopkins and himself at Golden Boy Promotions headquarters. Not much context was given to the photo on Twitter, but most fans assumed that Oscar was persuading Crawford to work with Golden Boy Promotions. Oscar later confirmed his intention to join Fight Hub TV in a quick interview.
He said he wanted Crawford to be able to fight Alexis Rocha 22-1, Vergil Ortiz Jr undefeated 19-0, and finally, revisit a big fight with Errol Spence Jr.
Just to briefly decompress that silly Oscar concept. Unless Oscar wants to ruin the careers of both Rocha and Ortiz, why does this make sense for him as a promoter? Rocha and Ortiz are very young fighters and have not been tested much. In my opinion, Crawford will definitely go to school and easily embarrass both of them. I suppose most boxing fans don’t care much to watch Crawford play around with Rocha and Ortiz, respectfully.

More importantly, does the thought of Spence fighting Crawford still resonate with boxing fans? We seem to have been teased time and time again about this supposedly big fight coming to fruition with nothing coming to fruition at the end of the day. Most recently, Crawford chose to stop negotiating with Spence’s team to take on David Avanesyan last December. Crawford, as expected, destroyed the dominant Avanesyan in front of the fans of his hometown in Omaha, Nebraska. Likewise, Spence is rumored to be going up against former welterweight champion Keith Thurman in late spring in the 154 lbs division.
With both boxers moving forward in their careers, will fans still care if these two greats will eventually go head-to-head in the ring? I, first of all, lost interest in watching that fight. With Spence up to 154 lbs to fight Thurman, I’m now more interested in potential fights in that weight class. I’d love to see Spence take on the undefeated Sebastian Fundora 20-0-1, or the 35-1-1 junior middleweight king Jermell Charlo, or even the highly skilled 17-2-1 Brian Carlos Castano.
In addition, the unbeaten Tim Tszyu 21-0 and Israil Madrimov 8-0-1 will also be interesting matches for Spence. On the other hand, Crawford seems to have fewer options going forward. With seemingly no major promoters backing him, I can imagine Crawford could find a way to defend his WBO weight class against forced challengers or take one-off defenses like the match. his recent match against Avanesyan.
