Ascot Racecourse will provide a record £15.64 million for tie and leap programs in 2022, an increase of nearly £2 million (14.4%) in 2019, its final year. the same prizemoney is expected to be distributed before the pandemic. These numbers do not include QIPCO British Champions Day industry collaboration.
Royal Ascot on June 14-18 will offer £8,652,500, up 18% on 2019. Royal Ascot Friday will be the first card of the meeting to hit £2m in prizemoney, and G1 Prince of Wales’s S. and G1 Platinum Jubilee S. (formerly Diamond Jubilee S.) will be the first race of the meeting for £1 million. Minimum wallet at Royal Ascot will be £100,000.
Outside of Royal Ascot, G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco S. will return to their pre-pandemic value of £1.25 million. The minimum wallet for flat races will be £15,000 and the Shergar Cup will be worth a record £550,000 as it goes from six races to eight, with 12 runners in each, up from 10. An extra £25,000 for Stable prizes will be offered on King George Day and at the Shergar Cup.
Guy Henderson, managing director at Ascot Racecourse, said, “We are pleased to be able to announce a return to pre-pandemic bounty plans as we rebuild. Although these plans are inevitably delayed, today is very much looking forward to. It is important that we maintain the quality of the acres and the terminal program in general. For obvious reasons, much of the increase announced today is focused on our 35 races at the Royal Meeting.
“The prize money of the race is equivalent to the remuneration of the players on the field. We need to offer the best we can to attract the best and help sustain international investment in British racing. Our next ambition, as we build Ascot as a global brand around world-class racing, is to be able to deliver at least £1m per race of the nine races. Our 1st group in the coming years.
“The pitch size for the races of both codes is under pressure. With this in mind, we’ve adopted several targeted increases throughout our program and raised our minimum bonus for both tokens. Specifically, we made some changes to the QIPCO King George Diamond Weekend and expanded the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup to eight races across 12 fields; Established races increased from £60,000 to £75,000 and we’ve added two new races worth £50,000. Our aim is stable prizes to incentivize owners and trainers to target these two devices and build on successful testing at this year’s Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup.
