Best Microsoft Surface: Which Models to Buy or Avoid (2022)

Our only complaint with the Surface Pro 9 (aside from the incorporated microSD card slot) is the shorter battery life than the previous Surface Pro in our testing. Microsoft claims the same 15.5 hours of battery life with the Wi-Fi model while the 5G version will last 19 hours. We’re in the process of testing the latter and will share our thoughts soon.

Specs to look for: Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD

The smallest, most affordable member of the Surface line is 10.5 inches 3 . travel surface. If your needs are minimal, or you like compact computers, this is what you should buy. Despite having a slower Intel chip, it still gets the job done. This third-generation model doesn’t have the all-day battery life of its predecessor, but Windows 11 is a more enjoyable touchscreen experience.

Due to its excellent compatibility with the Surface Pen, the Go is great for taking notes. With the Type Cover attached, it’s a surprisingly good combination, if it’s a small tablet and laptop. It may not be possible fight with iPad Pro In terms of sheer computing power, the Go 3 is well priced and good enough for most college students or anyone on a budget for a second laptop.

The $400 version has an attractive price tag, but it’s not a great choice if you need the Surface Go 3 as your primary computer. Smaller, slower storage drives and limited RAM can make multitasking and demanding applications slower. If possible, get the $630 configuration instead.

Like Surface Pro, Go 3 is not included Keyboard Cover Type or surface penso remember to choose those when buying your tablet.

Surface Laptop Workshop (8/10, Recommend wired) is the most powerful transformer of the Surface series. Thanks to the smart hinge, you get 2-in-1 laptops and tablets, and, if you like it, a graphics card. It’s a rare combination of power and versatility that makes it an attractive choice for creative professionals.

Laptop Studio proved to be the most reasonable with Intel i7 chip, adding Nvidia’s GeForce RTX discrete graphics card. Prices can go up to $2,100 for this configuration, but if you’re planning on editing videos or playing games, the extra graphics power is well worth the investment. Each version features a gorgeous 14-inch touchscreen with a 120 Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling. The haptic trackpad is also one of the best we’ve tested.

One compromise the Surface Laptop Studio makes is weight. While tablet mode is great for note-taking and sketching, a 4-pound tablet isn’t something you’ll want to hold for long. It works best with the tablet on your desk or in your lap.

This is a rip off, and dare I say, cute small laptop for Surface Laptop as well as Surface Go 2 for Surface Pro. That is, the “Go” moniker means emphasis on portability and price, not power. The Laptop surface go 2 won’t blow you away when it comes to benchmarking tests, but it’s very portable and stylish. And it’s fun to use.

It’s small and slim, with clean lines and a certainly nice feel—a rarity at this price point. The top is aluminum and the bottom is polycarbonate, harder and more durable than your typical laptop plastic. It’s like a $1,000 laptop, but it makes some compromises to keep the price so low, such as the lack of keyboard backlighting. Battery life could also be better. Microsoft claims the Surface Go 2 can last up to 13.5 hours, but we hit an average of almost 7 hours. The biggest is the secondary display, which doesn’t even have HD resolution (1080p). That means text may appear slightly pixelated.
