We like the Mazda 3 for being a stylish car that’s fun to drive – a real car that you have to bend over to get in. In the top version, the 3 hatchback is more of a luxury car than a Mercedes GLA. At this rental price for a base 2.5 S, the 3 is also stylish and well-built, and it stands out wherever it lands.

The most affordable Benz is the least popular because most people who can afford a Mercedes aren’t shopping for a discount. It also has the “I rented a Mercedes in Europe” look. The cramped interior is filled with cheap plastic. Mercedes makes a lot of great cars, but its imported models – and including the more popular GLA – all need improvement for the big money Mercedes has to pay.
