Via Dan Ambrose: Coach Bill Haney is fully confident that his son WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney will march to Australia and unified defense champion George Kambosos Jr next month on June 5 at the Stadium Marvel Studios, in Melbourne.
Bill says that Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs) will put himself in the line of fire if he chooses to throw more, as Devin will take advantage by hitting him back.
Kambosos isn’t known for high punch output, but you never know what he’s up to. The shots he landed with Teofimo Lopez did a lot of damage to his face early on, cutting him off.
Haney hasn’t had a cut in his career, so he may not be as prone to that problem as we saw with Teofimo.
“We’re looking to win,” Bill Haney said Against TV Hubabout the fight between Devin Haney and George Kambosos Jr on June 5. “He said that he is a better fighter, so we are preparing a better boxer.
“We had to sharpen each toolbox and be ready to make adjustments. The more you throw, the more you get punched. That has always been the method and model we live by.
“We like a guy who comes in and throws a lot of punches. We like an aggressive guy, and we expect Kambosos to do everything he says he will.
“We intend to go ahead and turn Australian fans into Devin Haney fans just by his performance. We will go and earn their respect to organize a stage and event like this, professionally as we should and do what needs to be done.
“Once we win, we will then look around at the rest of the landscape. We want to make the biggest battle happen. Shout out to Eddie [Hearn]. Matchroom and DAZN, who didn’t force us into a situation where we couldn’t do a well-defined fight.
“Kambosos brings a certain skill set where Devin will take him off the hook for what he likes to do, and see what he likes to do with what he doesn’t like to do. Is he a complete fighter or a one-way fighter. We’re prepared to make any adjustments we need to make.
“We never fought. We are looking for Devin to become the dominant Devin like him. The goal of the fighting game is to hit and not get hit,”
