Via Charles Brun: Bob Arum insists Tyson Fury will not pull the “circus action” and run out of the ring on Saturday night to avoid Oleksandr Usyk if he successfully beats Derek Chisora at Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium in London.
Arum says WBC heavyweight champion Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) wants to fight IBF, WBA & WBO champion Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) and he believes it’s possible. out in March.
“That’s stupid cow s**t, and Usyk is a proud guy and won’t participate circus performance. Usyk knows that if Tyson Fury gets through, beats Chisora, the next fight everyone wants, including Tyson Fury, is Usyk,” Bob Arum told Monday when asked if Tyson Fury would agree to fight Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday night if he entered the ring after his fight with Derek Chisora, assuming he wins.
“If it takes place in Saudi Arabia, it has to be done before Ramadan begins, which I think is the second week of March. If it doesn’t take place in Saudi Arabia, it could be in late March. We have no time constraints, as we would if we did it in the Middle East when we did it in a Muslim country.
“We will fight, a battle. I won’t do an Eddie Hearn. Every fight he does comes with a rematch clause. I don’t do that. I come from a school where you don’t do that,” Arum said.
“In other words, they’re going to play against each other, and if it’s a great match and there’s a rematch requirement, then the rematch will happen. Otherwise, the rematch won’t happen, but it will be a contract for a fight, over time,” Arum said.
If Fury is going to avoid Usyk for any reason and do the same to Anthony Joshua, that will limit his options. He couldn’t keep running away from Chisora and stabbed him in the fan’s throat.
As for Fury’s reluctance to discuss his fight with Usyk and how he said he wanted to slap him if he entered the ring afterwards, Arum said he wanted to focus on his fight with Chisora (33- 12, 23 KOs).
Let’s hope what Arum said is correct. It would be a shame if Fury attacked Usyk for entertainment in the ring, tearing him apart like a pitbull for entertaining his territory and beating his fight with the Chisora journeyman.
Fury said he didn’t like Usyk’s recent call him a drunkard, and he said he would slap him if he saw him in the ring.
Interestingly, there was a video of Fury looking drunk going viral on social media and that could be the season Usyk labeled him a drunkard.
“No,” Arum said when asked if what Chisora said about not wanting him to be Fury’s next opponent was true. “Fury, when he said he was coming back, we looked at who the opponent would be. Fury was the one who suggested it to Chisora.
“No, I’m just a promoter,” Arum said when asked if he would prefer another return opponent for Fury. “Tyson Fury is a fighter. The idea that the promoter is a puppeteer is crazy.
“We’re excited to promote Tyson Fury’s fights and we depend on him on who he fights next and when.
“The important thing is that Tyson isn’t an idiot, and on December 4th you can ask that question,” Arum said when asked what was the reason for the Fury vs Usyk fight. “You cannot ask this question before December 3.
“Chisora might hit him on the chin, and that’s goodbye. He doesn’t want to make a fool of himself by talking about a Usyk fight that didn’t happen because he was knocked out by Chisora,” Arum said.
