Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust
We’ve asked employers across the UK to commit to supporting Covid-19: Are You OK? campaign. Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust have made that commitment
The Covid-19: Are you okay? Promise
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust Advocates Covid-19 Nursing Times guidelines: Are you okay? campaign.
This means we recognize the often distressing nature of caring for Covid-19 patients, especially when patient numbers are high and resources are stretched. We also recognize the possible negative impact on the mental health and wellbeing of nurses and other colleagues working during the coronavirus pandemic and are committed to supporting those affected. We also recognize that the effects of this work can be delayed and/or long-lasting and will ensure support remains available after the crisis has passed.
To support the campaign, we are committed to:
- Provide easily accessible formal welfare and mental health support to co-workers for as long as necessary;
- Build a culture of mutual support, in which colleagues are alert to the possibility that colleagues may encounter problems due to their work during a pandemic and are willing to provide informal support such as: listen and subscribe to official internal or external sources of support;
- Make sure colleagues who are having problems know they will receive positive feedback, support if they disclose the problem, and understand that when asked ‘Are you OK?’ is a gesture of support and care, not an accusation of weakness.
We have taken steps to protect the mental health and well-being of our colleagues. Including:
- Risk assessment for health and well-being
- Care First’s 24/7 listening, consulting and consulting service – based on phone and web
- Training support for doctors/consultants
- Support for trauma, PTSD, chronic and complex problems
- Bereavement services for personal and professional grief and loss
- Friendly ear/welfare clinic
- A page dedicated to health and well-being resources
- Halsa Wellbeing lesson
- Virtual Schwartz Ring
- Security Ambassador
Colleagues are the heart of our organization; you have ensured that we are not overwhelmed during our initial peak – often at great personal expense, and continue to provide excellent and compassionate care to our patients and their families. It’s our responsibility to take care of you and make sure you’re okay.
Ellen Armistead, executive vice president and chief executive officer of nursing, said, “Colleagues have been amazing throughout the pandemic, their resilience in times of uncertainty and the challenges they face. All we face is doable with our workforce.
“I am really proud of a culture of care where colleagues have embraced each other and pastoral support has been provided.
“Continue to take care of yourself and reach out for any support when you need it. It’s okay not okay.”
