Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – Canceled campaign details leaked, four years later

Details of the canceled campaign from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – the only game in the franchise without a dedicated single-player mode – have leaked after four years.

According to the report of Eurogamer, Reddit Purpletoaster20 user posted a detailed explanation of Black Ops 4’s “cooperative live service” campaign connecting experts and multiplayer mode. The report comes after months of research and discussion. to those familiar with the canceled campaign, the post said, and also included more than 400 images Concept art, storyboards, original mission planning and more, lend credence to the leak.

The campaign is said to be set in the year 2070 during the “year of chaos” and is followed by events of Black Ops III. A global pandemic and several climate catastrophes have reduced the world order into two main factions – the World United Nations (WUN) and the Free People’s Army (FPA) – and which side will players choose? to fight.

While it’s also possible to play solo, the game will revolve around a mechanic “racing to the finish line” 2 vs. 2 with a world state that changes depending on which team completes the objective first, essentially creating a number of different campaign experiences depending on performance and faction.

For example, a mission called Data Control, saw FPA infiltrate a data center in Zurich, Switzerland to extract vital information, and naturally required players to knock out a number of enemies while doing so. However, the reverse perspective mission saw WUN infiltrate the lower parts of the facility and vegetation to destroy it. If a WUN player is able to do so before the FPA’s data is extracted, the entire facility will be destroyed and WUN will win.

Developer Treyarch created several original characters and cutscenes to go along with the gameplay, with each faction having its own “handler”, characters who will talk to the player through each mission and often oversee the campaign.

Sticking to the live service theme, several DLC episodes are also planned according to the post, each with a number of new missions (about an hour of content if played only once) and continuing the story of the two factions main.

The ambitious nature of the campaign may have led to its cancellation, as Reports first surfaced in April 2018 that Black Ops 4 will not include a single player mode for the first time in franchise history. It was reportedly dropped because Treyarch was unable to meet the deadline, potentially threatening Call of Duty’s annual release schedule.

Instead, the game prioritizes multiplayer and zombie modes, and also sees the birth of the franchise’s first Battle Royale in Blackout mode.
