Via Jim Calfa: Coach Andre Rozier is warning Canelo Alvarez NOT to have a rematch with Dmitry Bivol because he cannot win that match. Rozier says Canelo needs to return to the 168-lb division, and face Gennadiy Golovkin.
Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) hasn’t triggered the rematch with WBA light heavyweight champion Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs), so it’s possible he’s reconsidering his intention to rematch with he.
Of course, the alternatives to Canelo are not great, as he will face Gennadiy Golovkin in September. Golovkin apparently watched Bivol’s win last Saturday night and he will take detailed notes on how to beat Canelo.
The defeat to the much bigger Bivol gave Canelo an excuse to tell the fans, but he won’t be able to get a free pass if he loses to 40-year-old Golovkin.
Canelo will have to come to terms with the fact that he’s not good enough, which will reinforce the notion in fans’ minds that he’s never been as good as Golovkin. In other words, Canelo should have lost in the first two skirmishes with Golovkin.
“Bivol has been boxing elegantly for many years now. He might not get you out there, but he definitely applies the skill set to you,” Andre Rozier told Fighthype about why he knew Dmitry Bivol would beat Canelo Alvarez.
“I said Canelo is one of my favorite fighters, but this man [Bivol] Rozier talks about Bivol. “Hand down [Bivol beats Artur Beterbiev and Joe Smith Jr.].
“Yes he is [Beterbiev] stopped people because they met him there. If he had to earn it and was close enough to do it, that would be a big difference.
“Bivol has the technical ability to control the environment of the ring better than any light heavyweight I have ever seen. So I don’t see Betterbiev winning that fight. I see Bivol doing what he always does. Boxed his way to decision making.
“No,” said Rozier when asked if the rematch between Bivol and Canelo would play out differently. “No, don’t watch that rematch. Go after Golovkin, go back to 168. Forget about light heavyweights; forget about cruiser weights. Forget prosperity, ‘I can fight Usyk,’ says Rozier.
Canelo talks about wanting to challenge unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk for his titles as being too silly. However, it shows how Canelo’s ego has become out of control, leading him to believe in things he had no chance of achieving.
“To listen, a lot of people have been brought out of the cloud with this fight [Canelo vs. Bivol],” said Rozier. “He is [Canelo] had to close the distance and he couldn’t track and call Bivol.
“He can’t stay at the end of his right hand and hook his hook. He can’t be there, and if you can’t close the gap, you won’t be able to win. There is no particular science on this one,” says Rozier.
