Every year, people celebrate saints Chhath festival which is a ceremony of folk religion. The sixth day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartik is dedicated to Chhathi Maiya. It is said that those who worship Chhath achieve happiness, money, success, glory, fame and honor. Nahay Khay refers to the first day of Chhath, the day that marks the beginning of the festival. Chhath Puja Nahay Khay Rituals:

On the first day of Chhath Puja. Vrat observers get up early in the morning to worship Lord Surya before having a meal. Chhath Puja celebrations officially begin at this time. To follow this, people abstain from eating, dress modestly, and prepare food as an offering to the sun god. Devotees also prepare chana daal and kaddoo bhaat (pumpkin rice), as they are popular dishes.

On the second day of Chhath, known as the day of Kharna. Vratis does not eat anything or drink water until puja in the evening when the prasad of kheer is made with gud and arwa chawal. The 36 hour rate is then maintained until the end of Chhath Puja, when arghya is performed at dawn.

After the two-day celebration, fasting is continued on the third day, during which time worshipers are not allowed to drink any water. On this day, worshipers offer thekua to the Sun God in a body of water in the form of prasad. Fasting also continued on the third day.

Do’s and Don’ts on this day:

  • The day after Diwali, the preparation for Chhath Puja begins when devotees begin to eat Satvik food completely (no onions, garlic)
  • In Nahay Khay, the vratis start their day by cleaning every corner of the house. Cleanliness and hygiene should be maintained throughout the festival.
  • Devotees should bathe early in the morning and eat only after bathing. Then apply orange vermillion and prepare to start prasad.
  • All cooking ingredients, such as rice, beans, and vegetables, are purchased new or cleaned, and they must not be combined with anything previously eaten or handled with hands. dirty.
  • Mine salt is used to make prasad. The food is prepared strictly satvik and no onions and garlic are used when cooking.
  • After offering it to the sun god and Chatthi Maiya, the prasad is first consumed by the vegetarian and then distributed to the rest of the family.
  • One should offer milk and water to God Surya and worship Chhathi Mata from a hollow filled with prasad which is considered auspicious. Don’t forget to listen to vrat katha at night.
