Colorado Avalanche gives Nathan MacKinnon an 8-year extension
The Colorado Avalanche signed back the star Nathan MacKinnon to a new eight-year extension, the team announced Tuesday.
According to multiple reports, the MacKinnon deal was worth $100.8 million and had an average annual value of $12.6 million. Those numbers pass Connor McDavid$100 million over eight years is the richest deal signed since the salary cap era began in 2005. McDavid, Edmonton Oilers‘captain, has an average annual value of $12.5 million.
The signing comes after Avalanche won the third Stanley Cup in franchise history with MacKinnon contributing 24 points in 20 post-season games.
Outlined with the first overall pick in 2013, the 27-year-old MacKinnon has reached the Hart Trophy final as the league’s MVP three times over the past five seasons.
