‘Conor Benn is an emotional, angry fighter’
Via Charles Brun: Chris Van Heerden believes he has better skills than “angry boxer” Conor Benn and see himself raise his hand in victory this Saturday, April 16, at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. Events Benn vs. Van Heerden will be televised live on DAZN This Saturday at 2:00 p.m. ET.
Benn seems very agitated when giving an interview and it is not clear what is ingrained in him.
Some boxing fans feel that Benn has a chip on his shoulder because he is the son of a celebrity. Nigel Benn, a great warrior of his day, an exceptionally brilliant talent throughout his career. For his part, Conor lacked Nigel’s speed, strength, size, and skill.
If Conor is as good as his famous father Nigel, he obviously won’t face the same feeble opposition as Van Heerden, Chris Algieri and Adrian Granados. Nigel has been a machine throughout his career, and you can’t hold him back the way Conor is being held back.
South Africa-born Van Heerden, 34 (28-2-1, 12 KOs) said he was singled out by Benn’s promoters for use as “Stepstep” to make him look good, but he feels it will be his “The party is coming soon” At night.
Boxing fans were less than pleased with the news of Benn facing Van Heerden, and they were not commented on by promoter Eddie Hearn’s comment about the South African fighting. Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis in his final battle.
That match took place two years ago when Boots Ennis was 22 and Van Heerden was 32. It doesn’t matter if Van Heerden is the same age as he was when he played Ennis and if he is still playing.
Unfortunately, Van Heerden hasn’t fought since his fight with Ennis, which puts him at a disadvantage.
Benn is about to turn 26 and seems to have little interest in his promoter’s part in pitting him against killers like David Avanesyan, Ennis and Vergil Ortiz Jr.
It would be great if Matchroom broke their mold of rigging Benn with gimmes and throwing him in a wormhole with a few killers to see if he could take on some of his father’s talents.
So far, I haven’t seen any of Benn’s daddies in terms of strength, size, speed, and tenacity. I hate to believe a certain point, but if Benn was as good as his dad, his promoters wouldn’t need to compare him to Van Heerden or Algieri, would they?
Van Heerden: Benn an angry boxer
“Benn didn’t walk the path I walked. I don’t have a last name to carry me in my boxing career. I had to do it the hard way,” Chris Van Heerden told Boxing in the match.
“Unfortunately, it comes with a price. His father [Nigel Benn] He’s a very, very popular boxer, and I feel like Benn’s last name has put him in a position where he doesn’t have to work so hard.
“I am a much better fighter than Conor Benn,‘ said Van Heerden. “In my opinion, Conor is a emotional boxer, angry. He relies on his strength. He can’t box with me. He is not a boxer. He is a powerful puncher.
“I don’t judge him as a boxer. That’s why I say he’s a very emotional, angry fighter, in my opinion,” Van Heerden said of Benn. “Throughout the history of boxing, we know that boxers hate fighting male fighters.
“Orthodox fighters have always had a hard time fighting southern fish. It’s not the easiest, and that certainly plays a factor, in my opinion.
“They see me as a springboard for Conor,” said Van Heerden. “I see it as a coming-out party for me. I see this is where I shine and people say, ‘Wow, where has this kid been? I never got a fair shot,” Van Heerden said.
I wouldn’t say that Van Heerden is being used as a stepping stone. I guess Van Heerden is being used to make Benn look better than he is by throwing an inactive and powerless old boxer at him so he looks like a great talent.
You could argue that almost all of Benn’s career has seen him fight boxers to make him look like a killer, and if that’s the case, it worked.
Benn currently has a huge fan base in the UK, and many of them believe that his first world title win is just about imminent.
Chris is motivated to beat Benn
“Getting ready for this fight, I feel fire,” Van Heerden said. “My people see it. I still love sports. I still love it when I go to the gym. I still love them all. I live for this.
“I see the vision, I see I win [against Benn], and I saw a crowd of 20,000,” said Van Heerden. “I see my hand is lifted. I see that vision.
“I had to get past Benn, and it was a tough task. It won’t be easy, but I believe in my talent, I believe in myself, I believe I have all the tools.
“I believe that if it all comes together tonight, I can compete with anyone in the 147 lb division,” Van Heerden said. “I just need to focus on my job. I had to cut out the crowd. I don’t think it will be a problem. It’s going to be a very hostile crowd in Manchester, and I’m looking forward to it.
“It was important for me, and all of that, to focus and remind myself and tell myself that when I was in that ring, I was just fighting Conor. There was only one man in front of me.
“I have to remember that, and the key is that I must calm, focused, and that’s how I’m going to beat him,” Van Heerden said. “This is why I started boxing because of opportunities like these. I’ve always wanted to fight in the UK. I had this opportunity.
“I have never fought in front of such a large crowd. This will motivate me. Now I’ve finally been shot. I lived for this moment, and I envisioned this moment,” said Van Heerden.
