Rebrand Jaguar Land Rover, dig into Polestar
–
Tom and guest presenter Paul Herrold of Sons of Speed (Jill is traveling this week) opened the show to discuss the surprising rebranding taking place at Jaguar Land Rover. Tom and Paul agree that planned updates, including splitting Discovery into a separate brand, herald Jaguar’s demise in the United States. Paul shared news regarding personal car purchases. Paul recently received a BMW M2, which he plans to use on the track.
The servers were joined in the second segment by Sam Fiorani of AutoForecast Solutions. Sam has updated the team on what’s going on with UAW contract negotiations set to take place later this summer. Sam also shared some history and background information about Polestar, the new luxury EV brand owned by parent company Volvo Geely. Sam explains how Polestar will operate outside of the traditional dealer model.
In the third segment, Paul has to answer Tom’s “French Car or Asthma Pill” quiz. After the test, Tom lamented the small turbocharged engine’s lack of smoothness and constant power delivery like the old-fashioned V6. Tom used the updated Buick Enclave, which has a large V6 engine, as an example of the great improvement of the powertrain.
