Ronaldo did not train with the first team on Thursday and is expected to rejoin the group until Monday.

Sources told ESPN that the club supported Ten Hag’s actions but insisted the 37-year-old remains “an important part of the team.”

A club statement released on Thursday read: “Cristiano will not be in the Manchester United squad for this Saturday’s game against Chelsea. The rest of the team is completely focused on getting prepared. for that match.”

Ronaldo left the bench to go down the tunnel before the final whistle against Tottenham sounded, although Ten Hag had two more substitutions.

Sources confirmed to ESPN that the striker refused to play when Ten Hag brought in Christian Eriksen and Anthony Elanga at 87 minutes. United declined to comment on those reports.

Sources also revealed to ESPN that Ronaldo had left the stadium and was not in the dressing room when Ten Hag and the players returned.

Ronaldo reportedly arrived at United’s Carrington training ground around 10:30am on Thursday.

He spoke with Ten Hag before the Dutchman decided to drop him from his squad to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“I’ve always tried to set an example for myself for the young players who have grown up in all the teams I’ve represented,” he wrote.

“Unfortunately, that’s not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment is what’s best for us.

“At the moment, I just feel that I have to keep working hard at Carrington, supporting my teammates and being ready for anything in any game.

“Understanding pressure is not an option. It has never happened. This is Manchester United, and united we must stand. We will be back together soon.”

This is the second time Ronaldo has been reprimanded by Ten Hag for leaving the match early.

The United boss deemed his behavior “unacceptable” after he was pictured leaving Old Trafford before the end of a pre-season friendly with Rayo Vallecano in July. Ronaldo started the game but was substituted at half-time.

Ronaldo was also caught shaking his head following Ten Hag’s decision to replace him in the second half of Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle.

The Portugal The international wants to leave the club after starting just two Premier League matches. He has scored two goals in 12 appearances so far this season, including his 700th career goal for the club in a 2-1 win over Everton in the first day of this month.
