Daniel Dubois beat Trevor Bryan by knockout round 4
Via Huck Allen: undefeated WBA #1 contender Daniel Dubois (18-1, 17 KOs) used his superior strength and size to beat ‘regular’ WBA heavyweight champion Trevor Bryan (22-1, 15 KO) by fourth round knockout at Casino Miami Jai – Statement.
In the fourth round, Dubois landed a hard left hook that stunned him. Then, Dubois used a chop right to the head, causing Bryan to fall. The match was then halted at 1:58 of the inning.
Bryan was a huge disappointment in the match as he just threw smart shots and did nothing to keep 24-year-old Dubois away from him.
Dubois connected with his right hand smoothly in the fourth round to knock out Bryan, 32 years old. Although Bryan bravely tried to get up, his legs made it impossible for him to get up while turning back.
Dubois ran into trouble with Bryan late in the third round after landing a burning right arm to the head that rendered his fight impossible. In the remaining seconds of season three, Dubois threw everything but the sink at Bryan but was unable to get him out of there.
There wasn’t much action in the first two rounds from both fighters. Dubois seems overly cautious and is said to have given Bryan too much respect.
However, in the final 15 seconds of the second half, Dubois suddenly came alive and unleashed a series of powerful hits as he trapped Bryan against the ropes.
In the third round, Dubois stalked Bryan around the ring, shooting him dead whenever he stopped moving. Bryan loaded a huge right-hand drive late in the round but missed a mile.
It was the kind of shot that would get Dubois’ attention if it landed. Surprisingly, Bryan only rushed in towards the end of the round, injuring Dubois with his right hand.
Dubois was like a shark reeking of blood, tearing Bryan apart with punches that tore his head and torso. Bryan displayed a good chin and surprisingly excellent head movement to dodge some of Dubois’ best punches as the round ended.
All in all, it was a good performance by Dubois tonight. He’s currently the WBA’s ‘regular’ heavyweight champion and he’s likely to have some interesting bouts, but probably not against any of the popular heavyweights.
Dubois ‘WBA’ regularly doesn’t have enough prestige for him to get any notable boxers like Anthony Joshua, Oleksandr Usyk, Deontay Wilder, or Andy Ruiz Jr. to fight him. He may also be holding onto the interim WBA title because his ‘regular’ belt probably won’t get him any big names to fight him.
