The PS5 “compatible” SSD is a PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 solid-state drive with a rated read speed of 5,500 MB/s to match the PS5’s internal drive. That means, for better or worse, choose a top-of-the-line SSD. Note that Sony recommends a heatsink that attaches to your SSD. The Acer Predator has a thick graphene heatsink mounted on top. You can use it as usual but if you want a more robust solution you can peel off the thermal pad and install your own heatsink (we recommend this for 10 bucks).
Crucial’s latest M.2 SSD meets all the requirements for upgrading your PS5 SSD. It supports transfer speeds of up to 6,660 MB/s, much higher than the minimum threshold of 5,500 MB/s. Yes, there are faster SSDs out there, but if your intention is to get this into the PS5, that extra speed is useless because you’re bottlenecked by the original PS5 SSD.
