DeLorean Automobile Co (DMC) gave us our first proper look at its reworked electric sports car, dubbed the Alpha5.
Designed in collaboration with ItalDesign like the original DMC-12, this new DeLorean Alpha5 is an all-electric two-door, four-seat sports car.
It will be officially unveiled on August 21 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance event.
Along with some drawings and pre-production sketches of the Alpha5’s exterior and interior, DeLorean has released some initial range and performance stats for the base performance model.
According to DeLorean, the Alpha5 can sprint 0-60mph (0-96km/h) in 2.99 seconds. This happened at the same time as Porsche Taycan Turbo WILL to do the same sprint. DeLorean also mentions that it can hit 0-88mph (0-141km/h) in 4.35 seconds.
DeLorean Alpha5 has a top speed of 155mph (249km/h) and the effective copper pull is 0.23Cd.
DeLorean has not confirmed its power and torque output, nor how many electric motors it will have.
Regardless, it will be a far cry from the naturally aspirated 2.85-liter Peugeot-Renault-Volvo V6 from the original DMC-12, which produces 97kW of power and 207Nm of torque.
The new DeLorean Alpha5 is powered by a battery with a capacity more than 100kWhand it has a confirmed range of more than 300 miles (> 482.8km) according to preliminary EPA testing.
Design sketch shows two-door sports car measures 4995mm Long, 2044mm wide, and 1370mm tall, with a 2300mm The standard long.
This puts the Alpha5 in the same size category as the Porsche Taycan, although it has a significantly shorter wheelbase. For context, the Taycan is 4963mm long and has a 2900mm wheelbase.
As seen in previous contentThe DeLorean Alpha5 retains the two winged doors of the DMC-12 and pairs it with a modern silhouette.
It even has a silver finish that pays homage to the DMC-12’s original stainless steel body panels.
At the front there are slim LED headlights with a fake grille with the word DeLorean on it. There is also a large bottom air intake with horizontal slats.
All around, the configuration looks a bit like a Koenigsegg Gemera, and there’s a charging control panel between the front wheel and the door that’s extremely elongated.
There are also giant wheels wrapped in Pirelli tyres, sculpted door panels and wide rear wheel arches.
At the rear, the DeLorean Alpha5 has a full-width light bar as part of the taillight signature, along with reflective DeLorean lettering up front.
There’s also an active rear spoiler, rear windows, rear bumper vents and a large rear diffuser.
Inside is where the DeLorean Alpha5 takes it to the next level. There are four individual seats that can be used without moving the front seat.
In front of the driver is a digital instrument cluster and a minimalist steering wheel with touch buttons.
Wrapping the driver and front passenger is a square-shaped touchscreen infotainment system. There is also a large storage area under the central tunnel.
Besides the regular DeLorean Alpha5, there will be a special edition launch of the all-electric sports car.
This has been shown with the red exterior paint and darker interior with red highlights. It is not clear if this launch version is more powerful than the regular version.

DeLorean DMC-12
Not to be confused with the original company founded by John Z. DeLorean, this version of DMC was founded by British mechanic Stephen Wynne in 1995 when he acquired the original company name, trademarks, logos, and other trademarks. remaining parts in stock.
