Demetrius Andrade Says Teofimo Lopez Needs A Rematch With Kambosos Boxing News 24
Via Allan Fox: Demetrius Andrade thinks Teofimo Lopez needs a rematch to try to avenge his loss to George Kambosos Jr. since last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York.
154-lb WBO champion Demetrius feels that former undisputed lightweight champion Teofimo (16-1, 12 KOs) hasn’t made the necessary adjustments for him to win his showdown with his challenger. Formula Kambosos Jr. (20-0, 10 KO), cost him the fight.
Andrade wants to see Teofimo make the following adjustments:
- Close combat
- Right of Throw-in
- Stab the body
- Don’t rush to shoot
- Better protection
In addition to Teofimo’s failure to make the necessary adjustments, Demetrius said he may have been negatively impacted by the 13 months of inactivity and COVID-19 he brought down not long ago.
It seems Teofimo came up with a game plan designed by his father Lopez Sr., and when that plan didn’t work out, there was no Plan-B. Lopez Sr. wanted Teofimo to fight harder, close in on his shots, but he couldn’t.
Kambosos’ movement puts Teofimo in a lot of trouble and gets tied up a lot when he’ll get close.
Teofimo affected by inactivity / Covid
“I didn’t know too much about Kambosos until now. I did a bit of research and I knew he was a tough guy when it came to it,” Demetrius Andrade told Seconds Out. “Lopez is a fighter, so he knows how to make things happen.
“Maybe 14 months he’s off and he’s sick, Corona o“Something similar could have had an effect,” Andrade continued. “The rusty ring is real and it shows, but the rematch is something It will happen for sure.
“I thought it was time for him to adjust and he didn’t,” Demetrius said of Teofimo. “But he would go back and watch the tape again and see what he needed to do in the practice room for those scenes.
“That shot was often there and Kambosos did it when he could. Lopez needs to get back to the drawing board. He will definitely become the champion again. I can’t wait to see what’s in store.
“I think he [Teofimo] should have hit himself with an overhand and a lot of body blows. Get a little closer to him so he can become a counter puncher instead of rushing into hits.
“I think he’s going to go into the shots a little bit more. It may come with time. If he comes close, and defends a bit and sees what’s going on, and can counterattack.
“Like I’m saying, the forehand is there for Lopez to throw at Kambosos Jr,” Andrade said.
Even if Teofimo were inactive and sick with COVID, he would have struggled with the movement and frequent vocalizations that Kambosos was using.
Teofimo let the Kambosos escape with a large amount of it trapped. You can blame Teofimo’s trainer as he should have grasped this in the fight and made the appropriate adjustments.
Lopez should rematch
“I think the rematch is appropriate. I think that would be a good thing for boxing and give us a chance to see what Lopez and Kambosos are made of,” said Demetrius.
“For Devin Haney to get the chance, it’s also great for him. That’s my guy. I want to see him make it through and get to the top, but this fight, I want to see it again.
“I think Lopez is going to come back and make the adjustments that he needs to do, and I think he’s going to get the win,” Demetrius said when asked how the Teofimo vs Kambosos rematch will go. .
Teofimo’s father has said that they will not be participating in the rematch as they are planning to increase to 140.
