Via Scott Gilfoid: Deontay Wilder says he’s planning to join a Spiritual journey to help him decide whether to continue his boxing career after his defeat to Tyson Fury last October.
Should Wilder decide to retire, the sport will be without a great talent, who still has plenty in the tank. With Deontay’s strength, he could easily fight another seven years and probably more.
Wilder bitter about cheating
Strong former WBC 6’7 ″ heavyweight champion Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) has been disqualified from the sport due to ongoing cheating and politics.
Wilder, 36, feels that when he’s in the ring, he’s fighting not only his opponent but also the referee.
Though Wilder didn’t give any examples of what he felt like instances of him being duped, some boxing fans believe he should have won two-thirds of his fight with Fury.
For example, in Deontay’s trilogy against Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) last October 9, he dropped him for the second time in the fourth round.
Some boxing fans believe Fury was counted too long, including 11 seconds past the clock in the time the referee counted. So instead of Deontay getting a knockout win, he ended up losing the match.
In his first fight with Fury in 2018, Wilder knocked out the gypsy 6’9 ″ in round 12 after nailing him with a devastating left-right combination. Incredibly, the referee counted Fury unconscious instead of stopping the fight on the spot.
You could argue that Deontay should have made it 3-0 to Fury in their three skirmishes instead of going 0-2-1.
I mean, when you look at the first and third games against those two, it’s hard to come to the conclusion that Deontay should have won them both by knockout.
All the bunny punches Fury got away with in their second game in 2020, it’s fair to say that Wilder should have been awarded the win by elimination.
Deontay to join a spiritual journey
“It will help me navigate the decision-making about what I want back to the sport,” said Deontay Wilder. Byron Scott Podcast. “Like I said, boxing makes me feel bad for what it did to me.
“The politics and its cheating, the umpires,” Wilder continued. “It seems like I fight against politics, referees and activists because there are a lot of guys in boxing who are cheating. I’m thinking about doing Ayahuasca.
“Of course, they don’t want me to say it, but I will because it is so. I’m risking my life, so I have a right to speak. There are a lot of people trying to go against me in this sport and do everything.
“I support something and if you don’t support something, you will fall for anything. That’s my only thing. What I talk about and what I bring on my platform, I am passionate about.
“I know when you take on a role, there will always be challenges and difficulties with your fellow human beings. But I take that responsibility, and I take pride in who I am and what I am.
“There are people who are always looking and they need hope, they need motivation, they need inspiration to move forward. You cannot disappoint me.
“So I wanted to make this journey because so many tribes allow their sons to join this journey,” Deontay said of his spiritual journey. “They say they want their sons to overcome their fears, and this is how they turn them into men.
“So I definitely wanted to take this journey and see what I see in it before I make my decision. Like I said, I still love the sport, and I still have great plans. How did you explain after the battle [with Tyson Fury]. I’ve got more fans than anything.
“It’s crazy that the world is so backward,” Deontay said. “When you were at the top, people were jealous of you and went crazy for certain things, and then when they see you fail, now they see real passion.
“They see real power in you and now they want to be a part,” Deontay says.
