Destiny 2 – the popular free-to-play online multiplayer-only first-person shooter – is now in its fifth year and will soon receive its sixth expansion with Destiny 2: The Witch Queen this week. The Witch Queen expansion brings a new location in Savathûn’s Throne World along with new maps, weapons, quests, and more. Along with the single-player campaign, the standard Destiny 2 game features co-op modes – Strikes and Raids – and also Crucible which allows for player-to-player (PvP) combat. Developed by Destiny 2 producer Bungie itself, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen will be available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen release date

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen expansion is set to release on Tuesday, February 22. The game is expected to unlock at 11:30pm IST (10am Pacific Time). Since this is a simultaneous worldwide release, Indian gamers will be able to play the expansion pack for Fate 2 simultaneously with their global partners.

The expansion pack was scheduled to release in 2021, but was delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The latest expansion pack for Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is now available for pre-order on Steam.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen on Xbox Game Pass?
Yes and no. Destiny 2 and its current expansion packs – Forsaken, Shadowkeep and Beyond Light – leave Xbox Game Pass returns in December. However, the game and its expansion packs are available to PC Game Pass subscribers – that’s Xbox Game Pass for PC.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen version

Bungie is offering the next big Destiny 2 expansion in three editions – the base edition, The Witch Queen Deluxe Edition, and The Witch Queen Deluxe Edition + 30 Anniversary Pack. The game celebrates Bungie’s 30th anniversary in 1991.

In the standard expansion pack, players will have a new location – Savathûn’s Throne World – along with weapon crafting, new glaive weapon prototypes, a new Raid mode, new exotic gear and activities six new players.

Deluxe Edition customers get all of that – plus exotic SMG weapons, Catalysts, and Decorations. A Catalyst is a special weapon modifier for exotic weapons to improve and upgrade weapons. Ornament, on the other hand, is used to change the form of a weapon. In addition, Deluxe Edition players have access to Destiny 2 Seasons 16, 17, 18, and 19, two dungeons released in the ongoing Year 5, and Throne World Exotic Sparrow – a land-based vehicle in Destiny 2.

Those who purchase the 30th Anniversary Edition will get access to a new dungeon, Gjallarhorn Exotic Rocket Launcher, Catalyst and Ornament, new weapons inspired by the Bungie world of the past, Descending Echo armor set, outfit sets Bungie streetwear decor, Marathon themed decor, a unique helmet ornament, exotic sparrow, exotic ship, plus icons, shaders, emoticons and more than that.

Finally, all players who pre-order Destiny 2: The Witch Queen will have access to the Throne World’s eerie ghost shells, the eerie Enigma emoji, and a legendary emote. Ghost shells are an aesthetic upgrade to Ghosts – small floating machines used to locate and revive deceased players.

Fate 2: Price of the Witch Queen

Above Xbox Store, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is priced at Rs. 2,199 for the Standard Edition, Rs. 4,399 for the Deluxe Edition and Rs. 5,499 for the 30th Anniversary Edition. This price is for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.

PC gamers can get much better prices on Steam, thanks to Valve’s regional pricing support.
Steam lists Destiny 2: The Witch Queen at Rs. 899, Rs. 1,799 and Rs. 2,499 for the Standard, Deluxe and 30 Anniversary editions, respectively.

Above PlayStation Store, the new Destiny 2 expansion pack starts at Rs. 2,599 for the Standard Edition. The Deluxe Edition and the 30th Anniversary Edition are priced at Rs. 5,199 and Rs. 6,499, respectively. This price applies to PS4 and PS5 owners.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen favors Windows 7, Windows 8.1and Windows 10. There is no official word about Windows 11 support, although I imagine it would work if there was a common infrastructure. Players will require at least 105GB of free space to install Destiny 2: The Witch Queen.

Destiny 2: Witch Queen preload, download size

The download size of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen has yet to be revealed by Bungie. We will update this article when we know more.

In preparation for the new expansion, Destiny 2 will go offline on February 21 at 6:45 p.m. PT – which is February 22 at 8:15 a.m. IST.

Preload will be available in 15 minutes, starting February 22 at 8:30 a.m. IST / February 21 at 7 p.m. Pacific time. Destiny 2 will return on February 22nd at 10:30pm IST / 9am Pacific Time.

Gameplay of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen

According to the gameplay intro video Released last August, The Witch Queen expansion seems to actually build on Destiny 2’s existing gameplay, which is not surprising. It features new maps, new weapons, new weapon crafting abilities, and a brand new location. Expect the expansion pack to feel like the game, albeit with some new elements.

Review of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen

Back when we has reviewed Destiny 2 in 2017, we gave it a 7 out of 10 rating. In our review, we said the game has great music, great gunplay, and smooth visuals. However, the pay-to-win microtransactions have been frustrating.

The review for Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is expected during launch week. At the time of writing, there are no impressions – so it remains to be seen how the new expansion pack will appeal to reviewers and players when it is released on February 22nd.
