Dillian Whyte thinks Joshua might be scared if he stopped Franklin after 2 rounds

Via Brian Webber: Dillian Whyte says Anthony Joshua might reconsider going up against him next if he destroys Jermaine Franklin in two rounds in their bout this Saturday night at the OVO Arena in London.

Whyte (28-3, 19 KOs) is not interested in the next fight with Joshua if he wins against the undefeated Franklin (21-0, 14 KOs) in their first bout on DAZN.

Given the way Whyte stammered, it’s unlikely he’ll take Franklin down anytime soon. Dillian could win, but probably not by a first- or second-round knockout against his chosen opponent.

If Whyte wins, he says he will find the best possible opponent, be it Joshua, Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk or Deontay Wilder.

It’s unlikely Whyte will get a world title against WBC heavyweight champion Fury or IBF, WBA & WBO champion Usyk after his win over little-known Franklin because he’s not ranked high enough and he not considered one of the leading contenders.

Franklin is being called in to help Whyte adjust/build his confidence after his knockout loss to Fury.

For Dillian to win the title against Fury or Usyk, he needed to beat one of the elite contenders, and he chose not to fight one of the more dangerous guys in the division.

If Franklin wins, Whyte’s career is over. Yes, he can go around and slide into the vortex of Derek Chisora-style journeyman and possibly get sympathy in the fight against Fury, but he won’t win the title against a champion if he is forced to claim it by beating a top contender.

“I didn’t perform to my full potential, and it was one of those nights for me,” Dillian Whyte told. iFL TV about his loss to WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury last April.

“He’s undefeated, he’s got a bit of a rank, and he’s the most talkative,” Whyte said when asked why he chose Jermaine Franklin over another opponent to fight.

“None of the others were willing to step up, and he stepped up. That’s a credit to him. I respect him for doing that, and he’s dangerous. He is an undefeated heavyweight boxer. He is very dangerous, and he believes he can beat me.

“I don’t know if he really believes it, but he’s saying it, and his coach [Jesse Addison] are saying they will kill me and destroy me. I do not know. He’s saying some myths.

“I had to hit one of his men. He [Franklin] doesn’t say s**t, but his people talk a lot. Dmitry [Salita] and Jesse Bozo [Addison], whatever his name is. He was talking nonsense, but Jesse had gone too far. So I hit the one closest to me, which is [the promoter] Dmitry.

“But Jermain Franklin is a thug. He didn’t do that. If I were with Eddie [Hearn] and someone hit him, I’m talking about a guy I fought with; I will protect him. I will support him.

He is talking s**t. I hit him,” Whyte said when asked if he hit him first. “I slapped him. I don’t push him. I slapped him [Salita]and his little hat [Kippah] flew. I felt bad because I didn’t want to disrespect his religion and his little hat flew off.

“These people have to remember that I’m cool; I relax. I treat everyone with love and respect, and prosperity. I don’t mind. If you have something to say, say it to my face. Don’t hide it in the background.

“I said, ‘Shut up, man,’ and I beat him so hard. He was beaten like my b**ch. His cheeks are like someone’s cheeks. His mother let out a cry. He deserves it because he’s been talking profanity since Wallin. He always talks s**t.

“Do you know what he said to you yesterday? He came to me by chance. I don’t even know the guy. He said, ‘Do you know me? Do you know what my name is?’ I said, ‘Get out of here. I don’t know who you are, damn it.’

“I don’t really know who he is. I said, ‘Get out of here. I don’t know who you are b**ch a**,’ and he said, ‘I’m Dmitry Salita.’ I said, ‘Why are you telling me? Good day,’ and then I left.

“So I think he was a bit annoyed by that because I didn’t know who he was. To me, he looks like a Jewish guy. I thought it was a rich Jewish guy who came to give me some money.

“He said, ‘I’m Dmitry Salita,’ and I said, ‘Get out of here.’ Dmitry Salita is a hole **. When the Otto Wallin war broke out, he went to buy a brand new Bentley.

“After that, the money didn’t come, and he was p**sed. Seriously, he went to buy a brand new Bentley, and the money didn’t go into his pocket. He’s thinking, ‘Fuck Dillian Whyte.’

“I was like, ‘Dude, relax. I was injured. What will I do? Going into battle with an injury?’ These guys are wild. Before the battle with Wallin, me and Fury would never have happened.

“The fight against Fury was quick. It came out of nowhere, literally. I had to start training quickly. Fury fight came from nowhere. I get paid to fight. Why would I turn down a fight when I’m making more money,” Whyte said when told he wasn’t injured when he pulled out of the match against Otto Wallin to fight Fury.

“Then I have time to fight, rest and then move on. All these guys just talk s**t. I just learned to ignore it. I’ve learned to focus on one fight at a time,” Whyte said when asked about how likely he is to fight Anthony Joshua next.

“This is heavyweight boxing. I can beat Franklin, and the fight with Joshua will be in six months. I won’t wait around for that. Joshua may have an easier option for a comeback fight.

“I could knock Franklin in the first two rounds and Joshua might think, ‘I don’t like that. I may need a warm-up battle first.’ Not everyone has the same thoughts. I will fight anyone. I always take risks,” says Whyte

If it was true that Whyte would fight “anyone,” as he put it, he could have picked a better boxer than Franklin. This is a guy that Whyte has handpicked because he believes he can beat him. Whyte could have chosen someone like Frank Sanchez, Daniel Dubois, Filip Hrgovic or Joe Joyce, but he wanted Franklin. Did you get the picture?

“I’m not worried about that. I worry about Franklin, and then we’ll see what happens after that. What I’ve learned is don’t believe what was promised. Banking is based on what you sign, what you negotiate and what you get.

“Anyone in the top 10. I want to fight the best, and that’s it. If it’s Joshua, it’s Joshua. If it’s Wilder, it’s Wilder. If it’s Fury, it’s Fury. If it’s Usyk, it’s Usyk.

“Eddie Hearn never delivered Wilder to me to this day. I don’t think he will deliver him anytime soon because he never delivered him until today. So I don’t think he’ll deliver him anytime soon.

“Good business for them, bad business for me,” Dillian said of the loss to Tyson. “No regret. I had my moments in the fight. Look at the scoreboard. I had my moments in the fight. It is always an uphill battle. I still believe I can beat him when I have a chance to fight again.

“I was hit with a good punch. He also pushed me over, and I sprained my ankle. I broke two tendons in my foot. I can still fight for a heavyweight title.

“On Saturday night, it was another chapter in my career. I am an inquisitive, willing to learn,” says Whyte.
