Dmitry Bivol vs. Joshua Buatsi in the work

Via Craig Daly: Promoter Eddie Hearn said an offer has been made for undefeated challenger Joshua Buatsi to take on WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

Hearn hopes the fight can be made if Olympian Buatsi 2016 (16-0, 13 KOs) accepts an offer to face Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) for the next title.

Buatsi, 29, is the guy Hearn has wanted since Bivol’s upset win over Canelo Alvarez on May 7.

Not long after the dust cleared from that fight, Hearn began talking about Buatsi challenging Bivol rather than a Canelo-Bivol rematch.

Boxing fans would rather watch Bivol fight undefeated IBF/WBC/WBO light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev for the undisputed 175 lb championship than seeing Buatsi thrown into the mix.

“We want [Joshua] Buatsi against Bivol. We have made an offer now for Buatsi to fight Bivolwhich we want to make sure he’s happy with and hopefully, we can make that fight,” Eddie Hearn told Professional boxing fan.

“It’s not finished yet, it’s not signed yet, but we’re seeing if we can make the numbers work,” Hearn said.

However, Hearn’s hands are tied because Beterbiev’s Top Rank promoter Bob Arum prefers his boxer to face his #1 WBO challenger Anthony Yarde next in October rather than a risky battle for the undisputed 175 lb championship with Bivol.

Hearn believes Arum is a little nervous about having Beterbiev take on the highly skilled Bivol, who he personally feels is more talented than the three-belt champion.

Arum complains that Bivol fights on DAZN, which makes it difficult to fight his boxer Beterbiev, who is competing on ESPN.

However, Hearn sees it as a case of Arum not wanting to put 37-year-old Beterbiev in the final against Bivol and watch him lose like his other famous light heavyweights, Joe Smith Jr.

Bivol defeated Joe Smith by a 12-round unanimous decision in March 2019. The way Bivol beat Smith could scare Arum into letting Beterbiev suffer the same fate.

Buatsi is close to a grueling 12-round unanimous decision win over Craig Richards on May 21 in a match in which he took a lot of heavy photos and wounded in tenths. The scores are 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113.

Richards also made it difficult for Bivol, losing to him by unanimous decision of 12 rounds in May 2021. The difference in that fight was that Bivol didn’t take much punishment from Richards.

Although Bivol fired several shots from Richards, it wasn’t as tough a fight as Buatsi went through.

Bivol is about to have a win over Canelo Alvarez on May 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

175-lb WBA champion Bivol defeated Canelo and showcased his unsurpassed skill in winning a skirmish that made boxing fans more one-sided than a 115-113 x score 3 given by the three referees. Canelo wisely chose not to rematch Bivol.
