Doja Cat and Kylie Jenner Go Wild to Paris Fashion Week’s Schiaparelli Show
These days, it seems really groundbreaking red carpet moment few and far from each other: sure, celebs don’t stop styling and grooming to never look imperfect, but that’s different from taking incredible risks like Cat Doja only lost at Schiaparelli Dante . couture hell-show themed Paris Fashion Week 2023.
Pop stars and rappers stealing scenes are dragged onto the red carpet covered with red paint all over their bodies and 30,000 Swarovski crystals which reportedly lost nearly five hours to apply. She also wears a Schiaparelli uniform consisting of an opaque red bodice, a similarly beaded dress, a long red shawl, and red knee-high boots.
Susan Scafidi, academic director of Fordham University’s Fashion Law Institute, told The Daily Beast: “I imagine it was Elsa Schiaparelli, an intellectual designer who collaborated with avant-garde surrealist artists at the time. her day, would love this look. “There is no color more evocative than red, even in relation to Dante’s hell or good luck for the lunar new year, and the otherworldly nature of the look is perfect for our current cultural way of relating reality versus contrition.
Legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath is the man behind the out-of-the-ordinary makeup look. “Doja’s patience and commitment over the course of 4 hours and 58 minutes to create the look…really inspiring,” said McGrath wrote on Instagram. “The end product is a wondrous, enchanting masterpiece and a tribute to Doja Cat’s hard work and dedication.”
Doja’s outfit is reminiscent of Classic Lady Gaga looks, as well as a notable viral moment involving Rihanna: 2014’s Barbadian pop star icon”nude dress” involves a transparent web of gems. “Do my boobs bother you?” Rihanna asked a the reporter was clearly confused. “They are mentionin crystal Swarovski girls!
Meanwhile, Kylie Jenner also chose the new Sciaparelli style. A giant lion head perched on the shoulder of her simple black dress, an outfit that evokes by Luna Lovegood Harry Potter lion hat. (Online critics say it glorifies trophy hunting; the designer clearly states that it’s all faux fur, no animals were harmed, etc.)
Angharad Coates, an art and design PR executive based between Paris and NYC, told The Daily Beast: “Doja Cat’s look is amazing. “It matches Elsa Schiaparelli’s love of surrealism and art that fosters an artistic style, perfectly in keeping with the history of the House. (I just saw Schiaparelli’s performance at the Musee des Arts Décoratifs, so it was refreshing!) And as a Leo woman, I love the lion look. Very Aslan-chic.
Writer and cultural critic Juan A. Ramirez disagrees. Ramirez told The Daily Beast: “I don’t have any skin in the fashion game because it’s boring and lacks real glam and no one represents that better than Kylie Jenner, the epitome of ‘you can’t buy’ style’. “The hair looks horrible and the whole look is ‘daddy bought me this stuffed lion at FAO Schwarz.’”
Is the Doja Cat look just the first of many wild fashion week looks to come? The genre may have a revival, but Coates doesn’t think so. “Doja is like old-school Gaga,” she said. “She’s not a trend icon because her looks are VERY good.” After Gaga’s legendary appearance at the 2010 MTV VMAs, Coates explained, “There is no sudden trend for meat skirts.
