Dolly Parton is one of the hardest working people in Hollywood – and at 76, the legendary country artist has no plans to slow down anytime soon.
The Tennessee-born girl has just released her first novel, “Run, Rose, Run” with author James Patterson and a companion album of the same name. “Run, Rose, Run” follows a young singer-songwriter on her way to stardom in Nashville.
Last week Parton shared her illustrious career, her career regrets, and how she combats burnout in an interview with organizational psychologist Adam Grant for his podcast. “WorkLife with Adam Grant.”
During her 50-year career, there was one bad piece of advice that people tried to give Parton – but she always brushed it off.
“The main piece of advice people like to give me is to change my look – be simpler with my hair and dress, don’t look too cheap, they’ll never take me seriously. all right,” she said. Subsidies.

Parton joked: “I have burned so many irons that sometimes I am burning my own ass. “I have to get up earlier, I have to work longer, and I have to have bigger ambitions in the morning to get it all done,” referring to the opening line of her hit ‘9 to 5’.
She continued: “I don’t have time to burn myself out, I’m on fire. I’m a creative person and every new thing creates something else… energy begets energy and creativity. gives birth to creativity, so I really have to stay with it because I want to see things happen, I want to make things happen.”
After a stressful day at work, Parton said she enjoys spending time at home with her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, cooking or reading. She also looks to her relationship with God for comfort: “I always say when things are bad, I pray, when they get worse, I pray more.”
Parton’s other secret to success is simple: Don’t take yourself too seriously – and that includes not focusing on past mistakes. “I like to enjoy my job, I like it to be fun and I like the people around me having fun doing it,” she says. “My biggest regret is that I have no regrets.”
