Downtown Mischief remains undefeated in Cicada
naughty city center (Into Mischief) took home another big-money win for super-gentleman Into Mischief on Saturday afternoon at the Aqueduct Raceway. The chubby New York hybrid is now a perfect triptych after her win at Cicada S.
Breaking her maiden track on January 14, intern Linda Rice won that debut with a glittering 7 3/4 length in six boxes and followed by at Ozone Park on February 17th by crossing the barrier claiming the next option in the slide by 1 1/4 the length of the next winner, the Midtown Lights (Redesdale).
Supported from windows to sword hilts, favorites watched leader 1-2 Awesome Funny (Realistic jokes) briefly dropped from fourth to the backseat, but decided to let her move forward as Hot Little Thing (army mule) tried to make up after a slow start. When the trio is dueling on a long turn, the chalk pokes her head forward and crosses the dug eighth pillar to finally find enough to win by 1/2 the length of the late-charger. Tappin Josie (Anchor Down).
“I told Jose [Lezcano, aboard Downtown Mischief] which I think the little child inside of us has tremendous speed. She looked quickly into the yard. I’m also a little worried about the four-horse on the outside, but Jose has ridden her before and he says she’s not that fast. I said, ‘OK, you’ll be second to the two of you.’ And he said, ‘that’s probably where we’ll be, sitting right outside.’ It’s completely the opposite. The two don’t break and then she rushes forward, but Jose is a very professional and he never loses his cool. When he needed to stand his ground, he did – and I think that makes the difference.”
Second Mom Alpha Mama (Song of the Unbridled) is GISW’s sister Marylebone, and she’s also responsible for GSW Alpha Kitten (The Tale of the Cat). The winner is Downtown Mama’s first child, but she has an aspirational little daughter Music by Maclean and bred to Violence last year.
