Rapper and singer Drake has withdrawn his two nominations for the 2022 Grammy Awards.
Canadian star, four times before Foreign winner, was nominated for Best Rap Album for the sixth certified studio record His Lover, and Best Rap Performance for the single Way 2 Sexy, which featured the singer. Future and Young Thug.

Sky News understands that the rapper and his manager asked the Recording Academy to withdraw his nomination and that request was honored.
The 35-year-old star has been nominated for 47 Grammy Awards over the years, winning her first for Best Rap Album in 2013, for her second album Take Care. In 2017, he received two awards – Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Performance for the hit single Hotline Bling – and followed up with another award for Best Rap Song. Best of 2019, for God’s Plan.
However, he criticized the award years ago and expressed displeasure at not being nominated outside of the rap category.
In 2019, he declined to perform at the ceremony and took aim at the importance of the award in his acceptance speech, saying: “If there are people with jobs who regularly go out in the rain, , in the snow, spend their hard- earned money to buy tickets to your show, you don’t need this right here. I promise you, you won.”
The speech was interrupted.
In 2020, Drake criticized the award for failing to nominate fellow Canadian star The Weeknd – who called the Grammys “spoiled” – despite his huge success that year.

Grammy nominations are chosen by members of The Recording Academy and by members’ votes. Jazz musician Jon Batiste leads shortlist for ceremony in 2022, with 11 nods, with Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, HER, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo also receiving several nominations.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Monday, January 31.
