Dreams Come True: A New Look at Somerville
Jumpship, the development studio working on Somerville, was founded in 2017, and it has some big names behind it. According to The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley, two years later, in 2019, a developer shared a dream of seeing the studio’s debut project on the show’s big stage. That’s the wish Keighley seemed happy to grant at tonight’s ceremony as he introduced a new trailer for Somerville.
Tense and mysterious, the trailer glides from creepy, abandoned toy stores to scenes showcasing speeding spaceships. It doesn’t reveal much about what fans can expect from the game from time to time and doesn’t reveal an official release date, but it does showcase the game’s great aesthetic and great tone.
While the footage is billed as The Game Awards’ signature “World Premiere,” it’s actually the most recent of several we’ve had in Somerville. Earlier this summer, Jumpship’s title made headlines during Microsoft’s E3 event. The The trailer is equally mysterious, although it does introduce the idea that the game will follow a tranquil world once visited by hostile extraterrestrial entities. Hopefully we’ll see more of the game and have a release date soon.
