While Hearn did not say who the opponent will be for Benn, it is believed that 34-year-old inactive Chris van Heerden, a boxer who has not seen action since his first round has had no struggle with Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis in 2020.
South African Van Heerden (28-2-1, 12 KOs) hasn’t won a single fight since 2019, but he’s a popular boxer with heavyweight boxing fans. In 2015, van Heerden was stopped in the fifth round by Errol Spence Jr., then 25 years old.
Of course, when Spence faced van Heerden, the South African was younger and arguably at the peak of his career.

The way Benn is saying it, his April 16 opponent will be a big name, but that’s not likely to happen. The only fighters that Hearn mentioned as targets for Benn’s next battle were the following archaists:

- Adrien Broner
- Robert Guerrero
- Maurice Hooker
If the former four-time world champion Broner will be Benn’s opponent on April 16, Hearn will be non-stop when it comes to making suggestions to the media. He’s doing it, which suggests van Heerden will be the man Benn faces on April 16
Chris van Heerden is also on par with Benn’s final rival Chris Algieri in terms of talent and age. That said, van Heerden is NOT an upgrade to the level of boxer Benn has compared so far in his career.
Boxing fans want to see Benn show his bravery by accepting a fight with welterweight opponent David Avanesyan. It was a man who legitimately asked for a fight with Benn a long time ago, but Hearn showed no interest in doing it.
Khan called the rematch clause

Perhaps it was for the best that Brook is said to have asked for more than what Hearn offered him because it was a fight that Benn would likely lose. Even now, the 35-year-old Brook would probably have too much skill, strength, and experience for Benn.
