Edmonton Elks preseason tickets selling for $15; proceeds help Ukrainian newcomers settle in Alberta – Edmonton


The Edmonton Elks There’s less than a month to go before the pre-season game at Commonwealth Stadium and when they hit the pitch, the night will be dedicated to the people of Ukraine.

Friday, June 3 will be Side by side with Ukraine at night, when the Elks face off against the Calgary Stampeders at 7pm

Single-player tickets to the game will cost $15 and all proceeds will go to the Canada Ukraine Foundation. This money will go directly to support Ukrainians who are resettling in Alberta.

“As a community-owned group, we have a responsibility to bring hope, inspiration and action to Edmontonians on important issues. Supporting the people of Ukraine is a goal that resonates with our community, given our city’s deep ties to the people of Ukraine,” said Elks President and CEO, Victor Cui. .

“Our club has a unique opportunity to do something on a grand scale, bringing together more than 50,000 people for a common moment of solidarity with Ukraine.”

According to the Edmonton Parliament, Canada, Alberta is home to about 350,000 people of Ukrainian descent.

The city itself has welcomed hundreds of newcomers from Ukraine in the past few weeks.

While the players will still wear their signature green and yellow jerseys, Elks says the stadium will feature more blue and yellow elements to showcase Ukrainian culture.

Before the match, the Ukrainian Viter Folk Choir will perform the Ukrainian national anthem. There will also be a performance by more than 200 bilingual Ukrainian students from the Edmonton area. At halftime, Edmonton’s Ukrainian Shumka dancers will perform their classic Hopak.
