Elden Ring just got a huge update it’s Nerfs Bloodhound step

It’s been a long time Elden Ring have seen any love, but patch 1.06 is here. There aren’t a lot of new additions, though it’s worth noting that the update means you can now do co-op or invade in multiple places at once in addition to having a larger invasion area. There’s also a new mysterious NPC who is supposed to help you advance Varre’s quest do not have wading into multiplayer, though in typical FromSoftware fashion, there’s no word on where to find this helpful person. Still, the update is a huge one, at least when it comes to gameplay tweaks.

Bloodhound Step, an Ash of War, that allows you to dodge attacks at high speed while in stealth, has been adjusted so that the more you use it, the less effective it becomes. Bloodhound Step also goes more when you’re short on gear, but FromSoftware seems to have covered nearly everything to do with a low load. For example, you can now travel further when you don’t carry much. However, Bloodhound Step’s nerf is pretty big news for anyone getting into multiplayer. Recently, in a poll of 10,000 players, common skill was one of the most cited reasons to believe multiplayer was broken and unbalanced.

And you can trust players to be happy about this: nearly every reply under the announcement on Twitter celebrates Bloodhound’s passing.

One of the other much requested changes was the demotion of Corpse Piler. Corpse Piler is a skill tied to the popular Rivers of Blood weapon, where the player swings the sword in an “X” shape leaving a trail of blood. If an enemy is hit by an actual trail or weapon, it deals damage, accumulating stab health, and fire damage on launch. However, now, the blood trail left is no longer as effective as before, with less damage and bleeding when hit. According to the patch notes, the actual blade is also less damaged, but only as light. That seems fair, really.

Unfortunately, Astrologer favorite Glintstone Pebble now has reduced damage but it goes even further than before. The spell doesn’t deal much damage, but it can be killed quickly with low FP cost, and it also makes horseback witch spells a lot easier. Despite finding more powerful spells, I still equip Pebbles for 75% of my plays.

A welcome change to Opaline Hardtear, an annoying item there is a completely wrong description in the game. Tears are right disable physical damage, sounds pretty useful, doesn’t it? Well, so far, Opaline has instead reduced elemental damage, leading to a lot of confusion for everyone who has equipped it. This has been corrected.

“Bonk” players should also be pretty happy as the patch makes Greatswords and Great Hammers so much better. If you use bonk you can now roll faster after attack, charge attacks happen faster and ax is faster altogether.

  • Added the function to send summons to summoning groups in multiple areas, including remote areas.
  • When sending a co-op token to remote areas with this function, summoning groups in “Mohgwyn Palace” will be excluded.

  • Increases the range of “Glintstone Pebble” and “Glintstone Dart” projectiles while reducing damage and power
  • Reduced Ash of War “Bloodhound Step” movement distance and invincibility frame while adding the changes below:
    ・ Reduced performance with continuous use
    Increased movement distance when loading light equipment
  • Shortened activation time when consecutively using “Quick Step”, increased ability to bypass enemies when locked, and added changes below: 
    ・ Reduced performance with continuous use
    ・Increase movement distance when loading light equipment
  • Reduces the damage and health accumulated of the weapon skill “Corpse Piler” when attacked with health. When hit by the blade, the damage is only slightly reduced
  • Decreased target tracking ability of “Stars of Ruin” magic

  • Fixed a bug where some of “Lucerne’s” attacks could not penetrate enemy guards
  • Fixed a bug that made it difficult for a two-handed attack with “Hound of Hounds” to break an enemy’s stance
  • Fixed a bug that caused the effects of “Determination” and “Royal Knight’s Determination” to disappear after using the skill “Parry” with a dagger
  • Fixed a bug where dual use of Ax and Greataxe caused additional effects from Spells, Weapon Skills, and Items to not be applied correctly
  • Fixed a bug where using Halberd with two hands made it harder to withstand enemy attacks after using the guard counter
  • Fixed a bug that caused the physical attack affinities of some weapons to differ from those listed in the description.
  • Fixed a bug that made the player more vulnerable to enemies when wearing the “Night of Death”, even while crouching
  • Fixed a bug that caused a flame-charged attack to damage an allied character while wearing “Death Cloak”
  • Fixed a bug that caused HP to regenerate when switching your equipment to a certain type of armor Fixed an issue where effects added to weapons when using “Mists of Slumber” were lost when the player received an attack Fixed a bug that caused switching the playable character’s animation becomes unstable when hitting certain enemies with the skill “Ghostflame Ignition”
