Erica Enders Wins First All-Women Finals in NHRA Pro Stock History at SpringNationals
BAYTOWN, Texas – Houston native Erica Enders closed Houston Speedway Park with a win, beating Camrie Caruso Sunday in the final NHRA SpringNationals final in the first all-female final in NHRA Pro history Stock.
The Enders sped past 6,568 seconds at 210.24 mph in a Chevrolet Camaro to claim their third win of the first five races of the season and 36th overall.
The track that hosted its first national event in 1988 is closing after the event to make way for Katoen Natie’s expanding port facility.
“I grew up here and I don’t know if I can put this into words,” Enders said. “I made my first pass down the track when I was 8 years old and to do this in Houston means the world to me. We were able to do it perfectly today and I’m so proud of this team. It’s just an unbelievable day.”
Brittany Force won in Top Fuel, Matt Hagan in Funny Car and Steve Johnson in Pro Stock Motorcycle.
Force raced to a second straight win, beating Justin Ashley with 3,767 points 321.42. She had 12 career victories, three at the track.
Hagan won for the second time this season and 41st overall, edging out Bobby Bode with 3,982 at 326.63 in his Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.
After setting both ends of the record earlier in the day, Johnson ended it with his first win of the season, leading Matt Smith with 6,720 at 199.91 over Suzuki.
