Every Star Wars video game announced in development

The number of new Star Wars video games in development has exploded since the publisher Electronic Arts Exclusive Access to the already active Lucasfilm franchise. There are at least eight major Star Wars games in development, with many more likely to be announced in the coming months and years.

Star Wars: The Hunter

Developed by Zynga and NaturalMotion, the studio known for CSR Racing games, Star Wars: The Hunter is a free-to-play multiplayer arena fighting game that will be available on Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch in 2022. Star Wars: The Hunter is set after the fall of the Galactic Empire and features a colorful cast of original characters. Highlights include Slingshot, an Ugnaught riding Droideka into battle; Utooni, a pair of Jawas making fun of two kids wearing the same coat; Grozz, a Wookiee who fights using a pair of torn KX droid arms as a melee weapon; and J-3D1, a droid programmed to think it can use the Force.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic redo

BioWare and LucasArts Star Wars Role Playing Game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is being “completely rebuilt from the ground up” by developer Aspyr with help from Sony Interactive Entertainment. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake promise “[honor] what fans loved about the original, while also taking new fans on this incredible journey. A remake of the 2003 original will be released for PlayStation 5 as a console exclusive at launch, and it will also come to PC.

Titanfall and Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment is working on a 2019 sequel Star Wars Jedi: Fallen OrderThe game puts Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis on a galactic chase set after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Game director Stig Asmussen (God of War 3) is back at the top of the sequel, with no release date or official title.

Respawn Entertainment also has a Brand New Untitled Star Wars First Person Shooter in works. Game director Peter Hirschmann is directing the shooter’s development, which is good news for fans of the early Medal of Honor games and the original Star Wars: Battlefront games, where he was a producer. Respawn’s Star Wars shooter has no announced release date or platform, but it appears to be publisher Electronic Arts’ replacement for the modern Battlefront franchise, developed by DICE.

Untitled Star Wars Strategy Game

Respawn also has fingers in the new Star Wars strategy game. The studio is producing the untitled game, but development is led by Bit Reactor, a new studio founded by the developers of the XCOM and Civilization franchises. Massive Entertainment, known for its work on Tom Clancy’s The Division games, is creating a “New story open world video game set in the Star Wars galaxy. Little is known about what Massive calls the “Star Wars Project,” other than that it will use the studio’s in-house Snowdrop engine and series veteran Tom Clancy’s Julian Gerighty will take the role.
