Fastest time to eat Carolina Reaper peppers: American man sets Guinness World Record

The chili eating contest is all the rage on the Internet. It can make you blush or gain a large following. Whatever the risk-reward ratio, eating chili isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, especially if you have to eat the Carolina Reaper – the hottest chili in the world. But Gregory Foster, a resident of the United States, is an expert in this contest. He set the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to eat 3 Carolina Reaper peppers. Foster ate three chili peppers in just 8.72 seconds in San Diego, California.

The Guinness World Records organization shared a video of his attempt on Instagram. And, it is sure to win the great respect of Foster and a large number of admirers. “Fastest time to eat three Carolina Reaper peppers – 8.72 seconds by Greg Foster (USA),” the caption reads. Many passersby stopped to watch the effort.

The video shows Forster eating one chili after another with the greatest ease. And, upon completion, Forster, who seemed calm, opened his tongue wide to demonstrate that he had eaten it all. Please note that this is Forster’s second attempt of the day. You have read correctly. Forster, on his first try, was disqualified after putting pepper in his mouth.

Forster, who made an immediate second attempt, ended up eating six Carolina Reaper peppers in a row. On the second attempt, he succeeded in beating Mike Jack of Canada, who once held the record of 9.72 seconds. Foster said he “felt the effects of the first batch of chili being consumed” when he started his second attempt, according to the global record holder.

However, Foster didn’t seem to be breaking a sweat after eating all six chili peppers, totaling 9.84 Scoville Heat Units (SHU).

Chili fans tried to set the record as a personal challenge. “During training for an endeavor like this, it’s more about mechanics and muscle memory, so I give myself time to eat small sweet peppers so chewing and swallowing becomes an automatic response.” he added.

Foster also holds the record for most Carolina Reaper peppers eaten in one minute – 120gm.
