FIFA lifts the suspension for AIFF, India to host the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup

FIFA, world football’s governing body, on Friday lifted the suspension of the All India Football Federation. The move means that India will remain the host of the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in October. “The FIFA Council Office has decided to lift the suspension imposed on the Federation. All India Football Federation (AIFF) due to undue third-party influence,” FIFA wrote in an official statement. “The decision was taken after FIFA received confirmation that the mandate of the governing committee established to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee had been terminated and that the AIFF administration had regained full control. AIFF’s day-to-day affairs.”

“FIFA and AFC will continue to monitor the situation and will assist AIFF in organizing its elections in a timely manner,” FIFA wrote.

“Therefore, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 scheduled to take place on October 11-30, 2022 will be held in India as planned,” the announcement concluded.

FIFA suspended the AIFF on August 15 because of “undue influence from third parties” and said the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup “cannot currently be held in India as planned”. .

On Tuesday, the AIFF asked FIFA to lift the ban imposed on it following the Supreme Court’s decision to terminate the Commission’s mandate.
