Last week, MBW announced that Queen’s portfolio could be sold this year for more than $1 billion.

Our sources tell us that the first stages of the band’s catalog sale are underway and a full acquisition could be completed by the end of this summer.

Also this week, South Korean entertainment giant HYBE is reportedly looking to raise about 500 billion Korean won (about $380 million) to fund acquisitions in the US.

News first reported by BloombergCiting people familiar with the matter, reports that HYBE, the music company behind K-pop superstars BTS and rising stars New Jeans, “is in talks with investors to secure equity capital”.

Meanwhile, Cutting Edge Media Music, a popular TV music and movie rights company, entered the pop world this week, reaching an agreement with pop producer and songwriter Jamie Hartman. MBW understands that this deal has reached 8 figures.

Also, MBW has baked TikTok’s global music boss olive Obermann, while Ezekiel Lewis was promoted to President of Epic Profile.

The answer to the question, which we now hear from many high-level sources in the music industry, is an obvious yes.

TikTok isn’t even mentioned directly in any of those apps. But those who know, know.

An individual who understands exactly what these music executives are saying without having to say is ByteDanceTikTok’s global director of music business development (and therefore TikTok’s global music director), Ole Obermann.

Obermann spent 13 years at major record companies – a decade at Music Sony/BMG and then three years at Warner Music Corporation – before joining ByteDance in 2019.

Currently, he is primarily responsible for TikTok’s licensing relationship with music copyright holders both large (big label) and small (independent artist).

Before sitting down with MBW for this interview, Obermann was forewarned that we were going to throw some tough questions his way – most of them informed by drunken grumbles. that we heard at Record Label Land.

He’s comfortable with that idea. Sure enough, he smiled as the temperature rose during our interrogation – even giggling on the occasions we brought up a few molecules of exaggeration during the proceedings.
