From the golden steak to the video of him ‘talking’: The controversial week for Salt Bae
Salt Bae landed herself in soup (eh… steak). He’s been in the news for a week now, and among the many things that have gotten him noticed around the world is the infamous golden steak that cost him the eponymous hashtag, #saltbae, and the fact that fans Mu heard his voice for the first time and wasn’t too impressed.
Allow us to explain sequentially. Few days ago, FacebookThe parent company has unblocked the hashtag ‘#saltbae’ for the celebrity chef, whose real name is Nusret Gokce, after discovering that the tag had been blocked around the world.
But why did it happen? A video was posted – which quickly disappeared – of Gokce feeding a gilded steak to a senior Vietnamese Communist Party official in London.
Why is this controversial? ONE New York Times The report explains that General To Lam ate a steak plated with 24-karat gold at a restaurant run by Salt Bae, while he was visiting Karl Marx’s grave. The video has sparked fury in Vietnam, as it purports to challenge the Communist Party’s image of the country’s ‘equal tyranny’, the newspaper reported.
When the video was shared on Facebook, it was met with pressure from the Vietnamese government and the hashtag ‘#saltbae’ was temporarily blocked. “It paints a stark contrast to the disparity in living standards in Vietnamese society. Especially during the recent epidemic, when the budget is exhausted and the working people are struggling to survive – such a lavish party of officials is revolting,” said Chinh Duong, an ant. Hanoi-based architect and political commentator, said.
Next, the famous restaurant owner also had to freeze when he heard… talking. As odd as it sounds, people aren’t overly impressed with his voice. He talks about London in a video, saying, “Wait, wait. I want to say something about London… London is my big dream. Someday, the next, every day. Anytime. I love London. London is different”.
He then went on to say, “My English is almost like an Englishman”. But, his followers don’t like to watch/hear him talk. While one called it “c-wrinkle”, another commented, “I hate the way his lips move.”
Another wrote, “I think it’s best he never talks
”
While his salting skills can be impressive, everything else Gokce does seems to get him in trouble; don’t you agree?
