Just over a week after selling the association’s flag bearer Cadillac (Ire) (Lope De Vega) for £500,000 at the Goffs London Sale on the eve of Royal Ascot, Alpha Racing is focusing on sending out winners stars of the future at Curragh at Derby weekend, headed by G2 rival Airlie Stud S. It’s Showtime Baby (GB) (Showcasing {GB}).
Having won the Dundalk sorority award when she debuted in April, Jessica Harrington-trained It’s Showtime Baby took a black spot when she finished third in Group 3 at Naas last month.
Linkion chose to skip the royal meeting in favor of Curragh this weekend, and Richie Galway, who founded the commercially-oriented Alpha Racing Syndicate with Harrington, is optimistic about the next 2-year-old coming out.
He said, “We have It’s Showtime Baby (GB) to look forward to during G2 Airlie Stud S. in Curragh on Sunday. We decided not to go to Royal Ascot with her because we thought this race would be a good fit. She won her maidenhood and has black skin type. She seems to be making progress.
“We also have two beautiful ponies running in Curragh. National Emblem (Ire) (National Defense {GB}) looks like a lovely horse and he ran on Friday. We picked him up at the Tattersalls Ireland Showdown last month. The first and the last (Ire) (No, never) ran on Sunday and he was bought at the Orby Sale at Goffs last year, so it was a very interesting weekend for the team. ”
Galway added, “We strive to make Flat Racing accessible and give everyone the opportunity to spread their risk. Provide commercial information. We have fun but we also trade and are very conscious of it in the four years we’ve been founded and run.
“Everything we run is for sale. When we go to the annual sales we have a limit and we try to limit the supply for 20 people to around €50,000 each. We all have our part; myself, Jessica [Harrington]Legs Lawlor and Patrick [Cooper]– Who does all the buying – so we all invest in it.”
The Cadillac was the last car of the year purchased in 2019 on behalf of the corporation. His sale ensures that the owners record an overall profit and, according to Galway, the current crop of 3-year-olds being trained with Harrington is of course to ensure it will be a profit. “The Cadillac sale was the highlight,” he said. He has been the top horse for the organization and has taken us around the world. He’s excelled at the Breeders’ Cup, taken us to Bahrain and won at Leopardstown a couple of times. We are sorry to see him gone but the goal of the association is to trade.”
Galway added, “Among the 3-year-olds this year, we have Nectaris (GB) who ran well in a Longchamp-listed race, and she’s a Sea The Moon (Ger) lovely person. ).
“We also have Viareggio (Ire) (Caravaggio) and she has now finished third in the two listed races and Cowboy Justice (GB) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) is another snake horse. That year we also had an underrated Zoffany (Ire) gelding. I would be very disappointed if that contract institution also did not generate a return on their initial investment.”
Levels of excitement are growing among association members as Harrington lifts results for the next round of runners this weekend and Galway is cautiously upbeat about the future, outlining the possibility of horse sales around the world. after they show a level of Irish ability.
He said, “It was an interesting weekend. But it’s been an exciting few weeks with the sale of Cadillac and the two runners-up – Nectaris and Viareggio – at Longchamp.
“The benefit of having a small stake in all these horses is that you get consistent and regular action. There are participants from all over the world – Asia, USA, UK and Ireland. We’re always looking for new entrants and it’s the ideal introduction to ownership. ”
He added, “Last year, for example, we bought a horse named Pioneering Spirit (American pharoah) at an easy time. We paid him 100,000gns and let him run 4 weeks later as a young Curragh.
“He finished fourth and we sold him right after that. The association owned the horse for six weeks and made a great profit from the purchase price in that short period of time. Irish racing is highly regarded around the world. If you can win or be classified as a maiden here, you’ve got a pretty good deal. ”
